Stay At School works to improve the education of children in Nepal by supporting children, teachers, parents, schools and related organisations

Stay At School is a UK-based charity (reg. 1173685) that builds and supports boarding houses at schools in remote, marginalised communities in Nepal, enabling children to access and maintain the education that is key to their future and the development of their communities. Better education is vital to future economic success and prosperity. It is only through maintaining their learning that children can achieve their fullest potential. In poor mountain areas of Nepal, one of the world’s least developed countries, wasted opportunity and subsistence living still afflicts more than three-quarters of children. Our approach is simple and effective. If children can spend less time walking and more time learning; if their engagement with schoolwork can be improved and they can access greater support from their teachers; if they have a safe place to sleep and are provided with regular meals; their ability to gain and use an education will afford them a brighter future. Stay At School...we work with communities in Nepal to create brighter futures through better education.

Are you curious to know what a Stay At School Fellowships workshop looks like?
Workshops are integral to our Fellowships programme, providing tailored support to help our students succeed as they progress through higher education.
Our August workshop for Senior Fellows began with a short meditation to help everyone pause and focus for the day ahead.
The Fellows then took part in an interactive session on effective interview techniques and preparation,& and confidence-building. They then put these skills into practice through mock interviews, receiving practical feedback to help them develop and grow.

Stay At School’s newest programme, SECOND HOME, is a student centre located in the heart of Salleri, the Solukhumbu district capital. Designed to nurture ambition and potential, it will provide a welcoming environment where students can access the academic and pastoral support needed to succeed in their sixth form and bachelor courses.

A traditional ‘groundbreaking ceremony’ was performed to mark the formal and auspicious start of construction.

The ceremony, which was attended by district municipality representatives and other guests, is an important bridge between the planning and physical ex*****on of the project.

Back in April our Fellows and senior alumni came together for a meaningful day of learning, reflection and future planning.
✅ Child Safeguarding Workshop strengthened awareness of safety, rights, responsibilities and support systems, both online and offline.
🎓 Grade 12 Fellows gained valuable insights through an alumni sharing session ‘What Next After Plus Two?’, where senior Fellows shared their academic and career journeys.
📚 A career guidance session by Galijang Shampang, Head of Programmes at Campion College, helped students explore how to choose the right course and college based on their interests, goals and future aspirations.
The day provided a platform for learning, mentorship and connection as our Grade 12 Fellows prepared to complete their Fellowships journey in May.

Our current Stay At School intern Charlotte has spent time in Salleri, the Solukhumbu district capital, working with our Fellows delivering spoken and written English lessons. The opportunity to practise with a native English speaker helps students build confidence while developing valuable language skills for the future.

Stay At School Fellow, Abina, completed her secondary education in Basakhali and is now studying law in Kathmandu:
“After l started class 9 I began to observe how people in society treat each other and I started analysing the issues and reflecting on how I could make a difference. Slowly, my goals and dreams began to change and I looked towards a career in law.”
