Don't want to have to leave the wood for the summer just yet, so have been practicing with this year's leftovers, still a way to go before adding hurdles to the product list though! ๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“

Very please with this, after a trip to Reigate for assessment at the end of March. Tash got the Bronze she went for as well, so an excellent end to her traineeship! Not much else to post about now until the new season starts, it's already shaping up to be a busy one๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“

Well it went ok in the end, nice and rustic with some proper big stuff and some gaps that will get planted up, and a couple of sunny days too! That's it for hedgey stuff this season, back to the woods for a tidy up now ๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“

This should be fun! More of a 'hedgerow restoration' job to finish the season. Big stuff, small stuff, and no stuff๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซalong this line. Won't be as 'pretty' as the last one but it will be better for it in the long run! More to follow...๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“

Last Friday we were wet and filthy crawling around in muddy puddles taking off tree guards ready to complete a section of this lovely planted hedge near Alton. Popped back to finish it on Thursday in the sunshine, much better for taking photos, and it gave the washing machine a day off too! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“

A wee stretch we just laid out the back of Chawton House (Jane Austen's old pad). It was cut before we got there so not much brush to play with, but should come back fine. The bottom end was old and mostly dead, so we coppiced it and the volunteers from the house are replanting for us ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“

Saturday was the South of England Hedgelaying Society's 41st Annual Competition at Arundel. Never done a comp before, but as Tash was expected to have a go in her role as CPRE trainee, I thought I had better do it too. 5 hours of frantic chopping, chainsawing and panic later I just managed to finish my section in the Intermediate class๐Ÿฅต. 53 cutters in total across 5 classes, with 12 in my class. A lot of very valuable experience gained from this, though I could hardly stand up by the end, but another good day out, especially as I somehow managed to get 1st Prize๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“

Excellent effort from Trainee Tash too, who made a very good job of a rather scrappy section of hedge. She's been a fantastic asset to the team this winter!

Great day out at CPRE Hampshire Hedgefest on Friday, 30 people laying in a fun (non-competitive) competition, hand tools only so a good 5 hour challenge! Phil Hart, chairman of the South of England Hedgelaying Society was on hand to give some very helpful and much appreciated feedback, along with some lovely food after! Here's some pics of my effort, it turned out to be good preparation for the following day........ Hampshire

Good busy day with a nice bunch of volunteers at Sholing Valleys Study Centre today, with 30+ people coming along to see what's what and have a go at laying not the easiest of hedges! To keep things local we used whatever Willow stakey and bindery material that could be cut from a copse a few metres away to hold it in place like we did last year (and in case you were wondering, no the Willow stakes from last year didn't take root!). Thanks to Mac and the gang for a good day and good lunch too!๐Ÿช“๐Ÿช“
