Set up in 2018 by Mandy & friends, this Dorset based rescue is now run by a team of volunteers, as a self-funded, not for profit rescue using foster homes across the county for emergency,long term assistance, treatment & safety to guinea pigs in need.

Basil & Chive

While they both have incredibly flecked coats of white orange & black, Basil has a couple of stronger orange patches to help distinguish the two.

They’re a friendly pair of boars who will be amusing to watch as they move around with youthful energy. The pair are enjoying comforts of fleece items.

They are being fostered in a 6x2 ft set up and this seems to be suiting them well. They have previously shared space with others and have had several moves to endure.

Previously they were used at a school and are happy to interact with humans - Basil more so , though the pair are still very much settling in.

These two young boars have endured a rough start. Grooming of any sort appears to have been neglected as well as an available nutritious diet. They were initially too scared to even eat and spent 3 days in freeze mode.

It is always heartbreaking when these sorts of piggies come to us. The Fosterers have no choice but to intervene, syringe feed and support their intake, whilst knowing they are so scared in the process. We do all we can to keep them as calm as possible and the environment full of comfort.

They have a range of hays and forage to entice them, a pot of wheat bran and alfalfa hay to give a boost. Due to their low weights when they arrived, we can only estimate their ages- around 5 months.

These two brothers will be in need of a patient home, willing to continue building their trust. A minimum 5x2ft home with snugs and hay piles. They will come around with frequent interaction and engagement- fresh food delivers is encouraging them to venture from the hidey corners.

They are a stunning pair in need of a loving home 🤎🤎

You can actually tell these two apart … Chilli has some ear tears on both ears. We must add- not due to this pairing but because they were housed with 2 others. Having been used in a school as ‘classroom pets’, they are used to being handled and are very inquisitive and confident. (Though- the rescue would add, that being handled by multiple people not well known to them - is stressful for guinea pigs)
The rescue is hoping an adoptive family will embrace the confidence they have whilst nurturing their environment in their best interest- calm, stimulus, hay and comfort items- these two are loving their arch with fleece lining to huddle in together. They are boars aged nearly 2 years.

While some may seem content with human interaction… nothing replaces the benefits (and necessity) for Guineapig communication and friendship.

These boys want you to be aware of the high demand upon the rescue (and many others) at present… there are so many guinea pigs needing a home - adoption really needs to be encouraged as the first thought.

By adopting, you not only help the individuals you’re taking home… Your donations help towards the care costs, the capacity is made to help more animals and the foster team need these positive stories amongst the tough times and the losses.

She has settled in well and relaxed a lot already. She’s quite confident to let her fosterer know who she wants a cuddle. Pepsi, will happily munch on pea flakes during lap time. Aged 4, she is looking for a sow(s) companion to spend her retirement years with.

These boars are only 11 months old. They were sold together from a pet shop along with a cage which should only ever be used for very temporary housing or single piggy quarantine. They are chunky boys who deserve more space in their surroundings. They are being fostered in a 6x2ft set up and along with a piggy pamper welcome, are settling well.
