MEET THE PERFORMERS - GREENSLEEVES
The South Wimbledon Summer Festival takes place from 1.30pm to 6pm on Saturday 27 June in Haydons Road Recreation Ground.
Another of our many performing groups who'll be entertaining the crowds during the afternoon, will be Greensleeves.
Greensleeves Morris Men are south Wimbledon's own Morris Men group, who are now celebrating 100 years of dancing. With their colourful outfits straight from the heartland of English tradition, they put on an energetic and vibrant display of dancing to pipe and tabor, melodeon, piano accordion, concertina and violin. Their repertoire, based on the dances from a range of English towns and villages, is regularly performed at festivals around the region, along with the traditional Wimbledon mummers play at Christmas locally. They will already have danced four times at Wimbledon's Day of Dance by the time they take centre stage at the festival. In the months after they will be performing as far away as Devon.
They are always keen for new members and welcome anyone who would like to try morris dancing, to their practice sessions locally.
They say they guarantee you will learn a dance or two and earn a drink afterwards!
