It’s time to ditch the cameras because our lovely friends at are hosting a hands-on workshop on nature inspired handmade photography 🎞️

The workshop starts with a talk on handmade photography and by preparing your photo by coating paper in cyanotyoe chemicals that develop when exposed to sunlight! While that’s drying you’ll head to Lindow Common to forage for any plants that have interesting shapes or distinct patterns before heading back to arrange and develop your photograph🍃

The workshop is taking place at Wilmslow Guild on 25th April, 10am - 4pm. The cost is £60 and can be booked on Guildforlifelonglearning.org/events 🎨🖌️

No photography experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and your boots! It’s sustainable, eco-friendly, and a wonderful way to embrace the seasons.☀️

📅 When: Saturday, 25th April | 10am - 4pm
📍 Where: , Wilmslow
🎨 Tutor: Laura Harvey

Spaces are limited for this hands-on workshop. Click this link

The Friends of Lindow Moss committee usually meet in the evening, in the warm and with a cup of coffee and cake. So a mid afternoon walk in full waterproofs and gale force winds was a bit of a difference! ☔️
The walk round the moss was led by President of FoLM, John Handley, and focussed on the restoration works and what is next in terms of site management, events and marketing. It SUCH an exciting time across Lindow!

You can become a Friend of Lindow Moss by visiting discoverlindow.org and signing up to the bi-monthly newsletter that features the latest news, events and restoration works! 🪏

We’re running our Biological Recording Day again!

Last year over 50 people enjoyed a day in the sunshine recording all sorts of species across the Moss ☀️ We hold this event at the same time every year so that we can build up a good picture of what is or isn’t present on the Moss. Not only is it exciting to see what’s found and how it changes year on year, it also helps strength our case against potential planning applications! ❌🏠

This day is aimed at people with some plant and wildlife knowledge, but there will be some moths and pond species that our experts will be happy to show you!

Groundwork Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside are looking for Trustees to join the Board! Groundwork hire two full time members of staff on Lindow, a Project Manager and a Community Project Officer 👏.

Last year, the Trustees visited Lindow Moss and were given a private tour by one of our volunteers, John Handley OBE. It was great to show the board why projects such a Lindow Moss are important not just for the environment, but for the local community 🫶

If you want to get involved then please visit Groundwork.org.uk/clm 🌿

Happy World Wetlands day!
These photos, kindly provided by Anna, were taken around 30 years ago when peat extraction was in full swing! 😬 The peat that should have been in the ground sequestering carbon had been dug up and left in great piles to dry out in order to use as fuel. 🪵
Fast forward 30 years and Lindow is being protected by several organisations and passionate people who are aiding the restoration of this special wetland 🤎

Isn’t nature incredible? We were treated to an incredible display of the Northern Lights over Cheshire last night!

It’s not the first time strange lights have appeared over peatbogs! In folklore, will o’ the wisp is an eerie light that portrays a mischievous spirit believed to be souls that couldn’t enter heaven or hell so were forced to wander forever! The lights typically appeared over peatland and the spirits were believed to be eager to lead travellers off the path & to their death 😳

Science suggests that the light is actually oxidation of methane, diphosphane and phosphine, a process resulting from the forming of peat! 🪾

Today is supposedly , the saddest day of the year. Getting out into nature has been proven to reduce anxiety, reduce blood pressure, improve focus & creativity and and reduce stress levels*!

So today and everyday, try to get outside or if you can’t, open a window and let the fresh air roll in 🌳We can’t promise you’ll see any blue sky today though 🫣
