Last month, a bright spark in the universe went out. To say the impact of Edward Deci, along with Richard Ryan, and their work on self-determination was expansive and significant to my understanding of motivation and human development is insufficient at best.

Deci’s seminal exploration of the negative impact of rewards and punishment processes on human motivation, performance and self-actualisation were revelatory during my Masters project and encouraged me to explore self-determination theory more deeply. What followed was no less than foundational structuring of both my practical approach in my PhD work, and a recognition of a philosophy of human striving and growth that is energising and empowering my model and practice. His work guided me through imagining an alternative approach to working with ADHD to understanding the lived experience from an entirely new perspective.

I was honoured to hear him speak in 2019 at my first SDT conference, and to see him warmly greet attendees and speakers at the conference in 2023. I am infinitely grateful for his dedication to building an evidence base for human flourishing and am more determined than ever that the reach and impact of his work will change and strengthen the lives of many.

I look forward to the conference this summer, where his life and work will continue to be celebrated.

I’m excited to announce the publication of my new paper! It explores a Neuroaffirmative, strength-based intervention for adults with ADHD, moving beyond traditional deficit-focused models.

Our feasibility study found that by prioritizing quality of life and basic psychological needs, participants experienced:

✨Significant decreases in psychological distress
✨An unexpected reduction in ADHD symptoms, especially inattention
✨Overwhelmingly positive feedback on the intervention's value

This suggests a promising new path for ADHD support—one that empowers individuals by focusing on their strengths.

This fall, I will be teaching others how ADHD, Autism, and Dyslexia can be understood through a neuroaffirmative lens with my groundbreaking new course, Perspectives on Neurodiversity at the University of Notre Dame! 🌈

This means that, for the first time, I will be an Adjunct Associate Professor at an American university. How cool is that?

📚 What the course will explore:

✔️ Self-Determination Theory (SDT) as a fresh framework for neurodiverse identities
✔️ The contrast between traditional medical models and neuroaffirmative approaches
✔️ The impact of stigma, societal influences, and identity on neurodivergent individuals
🧠 Develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and empowering perspectives to reshape how we understand neurodiversity in theory and practice.

I’m very excited to have this opportunity!

Imagine a world where women with ADHD aren’t just told they belong—but are celebrated as leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

ADHD isn’t a roadblock; it’s a driving force. It brings creativity, resilience, and unique problem-solving skills to the table—qualities every great leader needs. Now, more than ever, it’s time to step forward and recognize the power of women in leadership, especially those who bring their ADHD perspective to work that transforms the world.

To inspire you, we’ve highlighted some incredible women who’ve not only embraced their ADHD but used it to thrive and lead. Check out the images to see what’s possible when we celebrate individuality and diversity in leadership!

The future of leadership is brighter and more inclusive when we make space for every type of thinker. Your voice, your ideas, and your leadership matter. 💡✨
