Earlier this month, The Jammers had the pleasure of performing for the wonderful members of Wigan Stars, and what a night it was! The music, laughter and smiles made for a truly memorable evening, with everyone enjoying a fantastic performance together.

Wigan Stars does incredible work supporting children, young people and adults with learning disabilities, creating opportunities to build confidence, develop friendships and enjoy meaningful experiences within the community. πŸ“β„οΈ Age Without Limits Day 2026 – Part Three β„οΈπŸ“

We're rounding off our Age Without Limits Day photo series with a truly extraordinary story that perfectly captures the spirit of ageing without limits.

Today's photos feature our very own Steve Rowe not only from last week but also from 2023 when he braved the incredible Arctic conditions, where temperatures with windchill reached an astonishing -50Β°C.

This was Steve's tour across the Northwest Territories of Canada in 'The Beast', delivering his global fitness programme, Aerobic Table Tennis. Travelling to remote communities, schools and local groups, Steve brought fun, movement and smiles to children and elders alike.

One of the highlights of the trip was reaching Tuktoyaktuk, the only community on the Arctic Ocean accessible by an all-season road. Getting there was no easy feat, with hours of driving through snow-covered roads, freezing rain and fierce Arctic winds.

But every challenge was worth it.

At the Arctic Ocean, Steve achieved something remarkable – becoming the first person ever to play table tennis on the frozen surface of the Arctic Ocean. The feat was made possible with the support of his trusted friend, Thorsten Gohl, who accompanied him throughout the adventure.

As we continue to celebrate Age Without Limits Day, Steve's story reminds us that growing older doesn't mean giving up on adventure, challenges or trying something new. It is a powerful example of what can happen when we refuse to let age define what we can and cannot do.

As Steve says: "Some people say a 60-year-old should perhaps not be doing such things. Would I do it all again? ABSOLUTELY."

πŸŽ₯ Keep an eye on our page later today, when we'll be sharing a video from this incredible Arctic adventure.

Now that's what Age Without Limits is all about.

🎡 Age Without Limits Day 2026 – Part Two 🎡

As promised, here is our second collection of photos from last week's Age Without Limits Day celebrations.

This time, we're shining a spotlight on our wonderful Choir members, whose enthusiasm, friendship and love of music demonstrate that age is no limit to finding your voice and enjoying new opportunities.

Singing together does so much more than create beautiful music. It helps build confidence, strengthens social connections and supports wellbeing – all things that help us age positively and stay connected to our communities.

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day so special. Be sure to check back for our final Age Without Limits Day post!

🎢 Age Without Limits Day 2026 🎢

Last week, we celebrated Age Without Limits Day – a national day dedicated to challenging stereotypes about ageing and celebrating the contributions, talents and achievements of older people.

Our first set of photos comes from our fantastic Jammers group, who showed exactly why age should never be a barrier to enjoying music, learning new skills and having fun.

Age Without Limits is all about recognising that later life can be filled with creativity, friendship and new experiences. Looking at these smiling faces, we'd say our Jammers embody that perfectly! 🎸🎀

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to mark the occasion. Keep an eye on our page this week as we'll be sharing more photos from our Age Without Limits celebrations.

Although last week's Volunteers' Week is behind us, our appreciation continues.

We've spent the last week or so gathering some wonderful photos that showcase just a small number of the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and compassion to support Age UK Wigan Borough.

To every single one of our volunteers – whether you're pictured here or not – thank you.

Your dedication helps us reach more older people, provide vital services, reduce loneliness and make a real difference across our communities every day.

Quite simply, we couldn't do what we do without you.

From everyone at Age UK Wigan Borough, thank you for everything you do, not just during Volunteers' Week, but all year round. πŸ’™

Yesterday, our very own Kim and Kate were delighted to attend (Females Uniting in Business) at the The Brick Community Stadium

Fubhub is much more than a networking event – it’s a supportive community of women who collaborate, share ideas, champion one another and help local businesses thrive. It was fantastic to connect with so many inspiring women who are making a positive impact across Wigan and beyond.

At Age UK Wigan Borough, we know how important strong local partnerships are, and events like these play a vital role in supporting and celebrating female entrepreneurship across our borough.

A huge thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome. We enjoyed meeting both familiar and new faces, hearing about the incredible work taking place locally, and sharing more about the support we provide to older people in Wigan Borough.

If you’re a woman in business, thinking about starting a business, or simply looking to grow your network in a supportive and collaborative environment, we’d love to see you at a future Fubhub event. Perhaps we’ll see you there next time! πŸ’œ

We're right in the middle of Men's Health Week, and we want to make sure this one counts.

Too many men are struggling in silence with loneliness, low mood, changes in their health, or simply not knowing where to turn. And too many of us don't ask how they're really doing.

This week (and every week), that can change.

We've written a guide packed with honest, practical advice for men aged 50+ covering mental health, staying active, the impact of loneliness, and the support that's out there locally.

πŸ‘‰ Have a read and share it with someone who might need it: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/wiganborough/about-us/news/

If you're worried about someone, check in on them today. It doesn't have to be a big conversation. Sometimes just asking "are you alright?" is enough. ❀️
