We are delighted to announce that Joining Jack has invested £392,500 in the Elevex project, the upper limb support system being developed specifically for people living with Duchenne.

For people with Duchenne, reduced upper body strength can make eating, drinking, using technology, playing music, or even reaching for everyday items, more difficult. Elevex is designed to support movement, not replace it, so users can continue using the muscle strength they still have, with extra assistance where it’s needed.

The idea was originally inspired by the light, floating feeling many people experience during hydrotherapy and since then, Elevex has been refined through ongoing conversations, testing sessions and co design with members of the Duchenne community – including user-testing with our very own Jack.

Working alongside Duchenne UK our goal is simple: to help people maintain independence, reduce fatigue and stay engaged in the activities they love for longer.

The Elevex project now has a full arm prototype with integrated upper and lower arm support and the technology team are continuing to refine the mechanics, ergonomics, and appearance - making it more comfortable and more
intuitive to use before the next stage of manufacturing and clinical safety and performance evaluations.

Investment like this is only possible thanks to the incredible support from you, our amazing supporters 💕

GIVINOSTAT APPROVED FOR USE IN NHS ENGLAND

We are delighted to share the news that the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended givinostat for use on the NHS in England.

In final draft guidance issued today, NICE approved the treatment for people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who are ambulant (able to walk or stand), aged six and older.

After a long and challenging NICE appraisal process lasting almost two years, and 18 months after the treatment was approved as safe and effective by the Medicines and Healthcare products regulatory agency, this marks a pivotal moment.

There are now two approved treatments for Duchenne available to patients in England and Scotland, representing significant progress in the treatment of this rare, devastating genetic condition.

Today’s news offers real hope for children and young people with Duchenne and their families. Alongside our partners and the national patient charity, Duchenne UK, Joining Jack played a key role in NICE’s assessment of givinostat and in helping secure this breakthrough alongside other patient organisations including Muscular Dystrophy UK, Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance and Action Duchenne

Among the experts to speak were our very own Jack and Alex. Alex said:

“While we celebrate givinostat’s approval today, it has been a long, agonising process to get us to this point. It has taken NICE almost two years to make a decision and during that time, many families were left without access to this medicine, while their child’s condition progressed and they lost mobility and function which, once lost, can never be regained in Duchenne.

“This experience has underlined the need for urgent reform to ensure that drugs for rare, severe, paediatric-onset diseases like DMD, are being assessed and valued appropriately and to prevent unnecessary delays for children and families seeking access to them.
“We will continue to push for much needed regulatory reform and to accelerate access to new treatment options for everyone with Duchenne.”

We would like to wish the happiest of days to our very own JJ Legend Michelle Charnock and her fiancé and fantastic Joining Jack supporter Sean Fletcher for their big day tomorrow.

Michelle and Sean tie the knot at St Marie Of The Annunciation R C Church in Standish after a fairytale four-year romance, having met through their love of running plus a little bit of Joining Jack fairy dust.

Both are incredible supporters for Team JJ, and Duchenne UK and the Duchenne community, and we know many of our supporters will want to wish them the best day ever 💕💕

The happiest of birthdays to our fabulous friend and trustee, Jonathan Whitworth!

Jonny has been one of our biggest supporters since he first met Alex and Andy at a Golf Day in 2012 where they had gone along to speak and Joining Jack was the chosen charity.

He became a trustee back in 2014 and has been on the frontline ever since. He is an amazing supporter for Team JJ and our partners at the national patient charity Duchenne UK and the Duchenne comunity, and a fantastic friend to the whole JJ family - even picking up Jack from school in his Lambo! 😛

We know he has lots of things planned and we can't wait to celebrate with him - Happy 60th Birthday Jonny - JJ Legend! 💕

A massive thank you to our amazing friends and supporters at Develop UK and the magnificent seven teams taking part in the company's mini Golf Day yesterday raising an incredible £1,785 for Team JJ.

The extra rounds came after rain had stopped play at the annual charity Golf Day in September when they still managed to raise £10,000 for Joining Jack.
