📢 Introducing the Duchenne Care UK podcast series 🎙️

On World Duchenne Awareness Day (WDAD) we are delighted to confirm the launch of the Duchenne Care UK Podcast Series.

These easy-to-listen conversations, which feel more like a discussion between two friends, bring the guidance developed through Duchenne Care UK to life. They aim to help families understand key aspects of care and navigate important health decisions with greater confidence.

Based on the existing Duchenne Care UK patient and family guides and developed with input from the Duchenne Care UK working groups, the podcasts have been created alongside our charity partners Duchenne UK to break down the information into accessible, short episodes, making it even easier to absorb, revisit before appointments, and refer back to when care needs change or new treatments begin.

You can find and listen to the podcasts via the QR code, on Spotify or here: https://www.duchenneuk.org/support/care/podcast-guidelines

Everyone at Joining Jack would like to pay our respects to a sporting icon, Wigan Warriors legend Sir Billy Boston, who has passed away surrounded by his family.

Sir Billy was a fantastic supporter of the charity. He became Rugby League’s first knight earlier this year and was a true hero on and off the field.

Rest in peace, Sir Billy, legend! ❤

I’m incredibly proud to have been involved in the development of this important recommendation from Duchenne Care UK. 💙
It’s fantastic to see NICE recognise and review the recommendations on orthopaedic care for people living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
What makes this particularly meaningful is the collaborative approach behind it bringing together clinical expertise, patient and family voices, and the wider Duchenne community to develop practical, UK-specific recommendations that can help drive more consistent, high-quality care.
This is now the third Duchenne Care UK clinical recommendation to be reviewed by NICE, following the recommendations on cardiac and respiratory care. It feels like another important step towards ensuring that everyone living with Duchenne can receive the standard of care they deserve, wherever they live in the UK.
I’m very proud to have played a part in this work, and grateful to everyone who contributed their expertise, experience and time. 👏

🎉 Another important milestone for Duchenne Care UK!

We’re delighted to share that NICE has reviewed Duchenne Care UK’s recommendations on orthopaedic care for people living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

The recommendations aim to help ensure people with Duchenne receive consistent, high-quality orthopaedic care across the UK, covering areas including fracture management and elective orthopaedic procedures.

NICE highlighted the strength of the recommendations, including the involvement of clinical experts and patient representatives throughout their development, as well as strong engagement across the Duchenne community.

This is the third Duchenne Care UK clinical recommendation to be reviewed by NICE, following our recommendations on cardiac and respiratory care.

It marks an important step towards establishing clear, UK-specific standards of care for everyone living with Duchenne. 💙

We couldn’t be prouder of James. ❤️
James has been awarded a rugby scholarship with Wigan Warriors. We honestly couldn’t be happier for him. He has worked so hard to earn this opportunity, and we can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes him. 🏉
I wanted to share this here on the Joining Jack page because one of the questions I’m often asked by Duchenne families is whether it bothers Jack that James plays rugby.
The truth is, Jack could not be prouder of his brother.
He is James’s biggest supporter and probably his biggest critic too! 😂 You will always hear Jack loud and clear on the sidelines, whether he’s cheering James on or giving him his honest opinion.
Jack loves being involved in rugby, and James’s teammates have always gone above and beyond to make him feel included. Some of my most precious memories are of this team, the coaches and the families being there for all of us through the highs and the lows of our Duchenne journey. ❤️
Duchenne has changed so much for Jack but he is now forging his own path and finding his passions through wheelchair sports. But that doesn’t mean he has stopped being part of James’s journey.
Quite the opposite.
Jack will always be James’s biggest fan, and I’m pretty sure he’ll be coming home from university to watch every game! 🏉❤️
Two brothers. Two very different journeys. But always cheering each other on.
Congratulations, James. We are so, so proud of you. And I know someone else who is even prouder. ❤️

We may be biased but our main man is a superstar! Team JJ are all very proud of you Jack! 🤩

Everyone at Joining Jack would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Jesy Nelson, UK, and Muscular Dystrophy UK on the successful campaign to secure the introduction of newborn screening for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

This is a landmark achievement that will help ensure babies with SMA are identified and treated as early as possible, giving families the best possible start and access to life-changing treatments when they matter most.

To everyone who has worked tirelessly to make this happen we thank you. Your passion, determination, and advocacy have created a legacy that will change countless lives.

We also hope this incredible success paves the way for newborn screening for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, so that more families can benefit from earlier diagnosis, earlier access to care and treatment, and a brighter future.

Congratulations once again on this outstanding achievement. Together, we continue to move closer to a future where every child has the best possible chance. 💜

A super charity Tuesday shoutout to our lovely friend Andy Tate taking part in the Classic Sports Car Club Turbo Tin Tops Series earlier this month and raising awareness for Joining Jack and the duchenne community 💕

Andy said: "I felt incredibly proud to and honoured to be promoting the Joining Jack charity. The car looked fantastic with the logo on, and we even managed to get interviewed."

And to top it off, the team of Andy, Ian, David, Olie and Paul came away with a win in the Turbo Tin Tops! 🏆
