What a weekend for 723!

It's been another packed weekend for 723 Squadron, with cadets and staff taking part in a range of activities

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Today, our cadets completed Day 2 of their first Bronze DofE training expedition, following a night of camping outdoors and learning how to cook their own meals.

The cadets learned the importance of efficiently completing their personal administration, preparing their equipment and striking camp before heading out on another navigational walk.

A huge well done to the team for their hard work and determination, and a massive thank you to the staff who made the weekend possible!

Cadet Qualifications

Meanwhile, three of our cadets attended Inskip Cadet Centre, successfully completing qualifications in Bronze First Aid, Bronze Cyber and Silver Space.

CI Bolton also attended in his capacity as Wing Space Officer, supporting the delivery of the Space syllabus.

Road Marching

Finally, APO Morgan supported Merseyside Wing's Road Marching Team Leaders Course, helping to train and develop the next generation of Road Marching Team Leaders.

A huge well done to everyone involved!

Cadet Achievements!

A huge well done to our cadets who, as you may have seen, recently passed out of their initial cadet training and into the wider Squadron!

On Friday, these cadets received their badges and certificates, including First Class Cadet, Blue First Aid, Bronze First Aid and Leadership awards.

Already, they are off to a fantastic start, building up their cadet CVs and developing valuable skills and qualifications along the way.

A huge well done to all involved. We look forward to seeing what you achieve next!

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

This weekend, seven cadets from 723 Squadron have embarked on their first Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award training weekend.

Led by CI Kenyon, our newly qualified DofE Leader, and supported by CI Tate, CI Oliver and CI Claypole, the cadets are developing their skills in orienteering, leadership, map reading and outdoor camping.

The weekend provides a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to develop their confidence, teamwork and independence as they work towards completing their Bronze DofE Award.

A huge thank you to our staff for giving up their weekend to support the cadets and provide these valuable experiences.

A final huge thank you to 723s committee for the purchase of a brand new set of tents, equipment and rucksacks to enable this activity.

Good luck to all cadets as they work to complete this award.

National Cadets Week - First Aid

To round off a very busy week for 723, and indeed a busy week for cadet forces across the country, 723 held a Youth First Aid course.

This course delivers lifesaving skills to our cadets, empowering them to provide first aid should it be needed. Skills such as first aid are fundamental to our organisation and the development of our young people.

A huge well done to the cadets who completed this course, and a thank you to the staff who gave up their weekend to deliver these lifesaving skills.

April 26 Junior Cadet Graduation Parade

Last Friday marked an important milestone for our newest cadets as they have now completed their first-class cadet training and have now passed out into the wider squadron.

We were honoured to welcome a number of special guests, including the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Melanie Bryan OBE, The Mayor of Wigan, Cllr Anne Collins, Cllr Kenyon, Cllr Cullen, Sqn Ldr Fox, Sqn Ldr Nash, Padre Shepherd, Bernard Cocker, Marcus and Lindsay Pollard from the Royal Air Force Association Leigh Branch and all the parents and families of the junior cadets.

A special thank you goes to Padre Shepherd for administering the Cadet Oath, marking an important moment in the cadets’ journey with the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Royal Air Force Association Leigh Branch for the adoption of 723 Squadron. We are incredibly grateful for the support and look forward to working with you in the future.

A special mention to Cdt Hill who was selected as Course Cadet and was awarded the coveted squadron commander’s coin. She has demonstrated the very best of values, during her initial training which has been recognised by the squadron staff – well done!

Finally, a massive congratulations to all of our graduating cadets. Completing your initial training and taking the Cadet Oath is a significant milestone, but this is only the beginning of your cadet journey.

Our new Minibus!

723 would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Flt Lt John Thomas from 2199 Workington Squadron Air Training Corps and all the staff at Sellafield Ltd Transport Department for their incredible generosity with the donation of a minibus to our Squadron.

723 would like to thank Andrew Robson for coordinating the preparation and handover of the vehicle, alongside Sean Dalton and the maintenance team for their hard work in preparing the minibus for its new home.

This generous donation will make a tremendous difference to our Squadron, providing us with greater flexibility to transport our cadets to camps, competitions, training events and other exciting activities across the country.

Thank you to APO Morgan and CI Hickman for making the long journey to pick up our new bus.

On behalf of all the cadets, staff and committee at 723 Squadron, thank you to everyone involved for your generosity and support!
