This week is Shared Lives Week so we’re celebrating just some of the local success stories.
Philip was referred to our Shared Lives service as he lived alone and was isolated. After a careful matching process, Philip was introduced to Shared Lives carer, Ian, which has transformed Philip’s life.
Since being introduced to each other, Philip and Ian have explored the borough and wider North West region together, visiting Sunshine House, Haigh Hall, Mesnes Park, the Imperial War Museum, Media City, Bygone Times and many local cafes along the way!
Ian has also introduced Philip to some regular groups and activities, such as Embrace, an organisation that offers support for people with disabilities, where Philip now volunteers.
Philip has discovered a love of gardening, inspired by helping Ian on his allotment, and has joined a local gardening group.
With the support offered by Ian, Philip has become much more independent, now feeling confident enough to travel on short bus journeys by himself and he is currently looking into joining a Tai Chi class.
In Shared Lives Week, we want to say a massive thank you to all of the Shared Lives carers, who, with support of the team at Wigan Council, help to make such a big difference to local people’s lives.
