Arrowhead Chapter 8500 Installation 19-3-2026, Bryn Masonic Hall.
The Chapter tyled at 6pm with the regular business being conducted before the Assistant to the 3 Grand Principals John Selley was admitted together with several Acting Provincial Grand Officers and Wigan Group Chairman Ian Green.
Once all were seated, Bob North was placed in the chair of Scribe Nehemiah for the purposes of installation prior to Dennis Skett being obligated and installed as J of the Chapter.
Ed Blagborough was presented as H elect and duly obligated after which Keith Woodhall occupied the chair of 2nd Principal for the purposes of installation.
Those below the rank of installed 1st Principal were asked to leave for a short while during which time Z elect, George Head, was presented to MEZ and duly obligated, with a passage of scripture being recited excellently by John Mason and a solemn prayer from Dennis Skett.
MEZ thanked the officers and brethren of Arrowhead Chapter after which Z elect was installed in a duly constituted conclave of installed 1st principals, much to the acclaim of all present. Having invested his IPZ, MEZ George Head closed the conclave of 1st principals and reopened a conclave of installed 2nd principals, before H elect was re-admitted and installed in his chair by MEZ also in a very commendable fashion. Having closed the installed 3rd principals conclave, all the companions were re-admitted and saluted the 3 principals appropriately and respectfully.
At this point the robe addresses were given as follows:
Scarlet – Neil Keegan
Purple – John Barnes
Blue – John Aitken
All 3 addresses were expertly delivered with meaning and sincerity.
The IPZ then presented the Charter of the Chapter, the book of constitutions and the Bye-laws to the MEZ, following which the various Chapter officers were installed. Once all officers were in position, addresses were given as below:
To the 1st Principal – John Aitken
To the 3 Principals – Joe Feeney
To the Chapter Officers – Keith Lang
To the Companions – John Selley
This being the completion of the installation, John Selly brought the greetings of the MEGS to all the companions and the MEZ presented the following cheques:
£250 to Think Ahead
£250 to 3 Wishes
£250 to Wigan and Leigh Hospice
£500 to Ashton Masonic Hall
Making a grand total of £1250 – a magnificent amount.
The Chapter then proceeded with its regular business with the principal guest and retinue retiring after the 2nd summons.
An enjoyable Provincial bar preceded a sumptuous festive board, which is only to be expected from Christine and Phil, during which there were several toasts and an excellent raffle which raised around £150.
All concerned retired home happy in the knowledge that they had experienced a great evening in fantastic company.

3 Degrees, 2 ADC’s and 1 Worshipful Master ……..
Borough Lodge installation on Thursday 12th March was an excellent, well attended affair in which the incoming WM – Brian Todhunter - was installed in fine style to the acclaim of all present by Ian Finney.
The Representative of the RW Prov GM was Roy Ashley who entered in the 1st degree and was saluted appropriately.
The following members were seated as the installing officers for the duration of the ceremony – Peter Graham – SW, John Rylance – JW and James Birkett – IG, after which Jim Jackson presented the Master Elect to Ian Finney, the Installing Master.
The Charges were imparted by the Secretary and the ME recited his obligation before being seated prior to the Board of Installed Masters, which was declared once all those below the rank of an installed Master had left for a short time.
As the Inner workings were completed, the Master Masons were invited back in and perambulated the Lodge room displaying the signs as directed by the ADC. James McDonald presented an outstanding version of the 3rd degree tools which set the scene for what was to come.
Once closed in the 3rd degree, the WM invited the Fellowcrafts to return who also passed around the lodge room saluting appropriately. Philip Ballentyne had the task of presenting the 2nd degree tools which he recited word perfectly; no mean feat considering he delivered the long version in an absolutely splendid fashion.
With the 2nd degree closed the Entered Apprentices were re-admitted and duly paid their respects to the new WM whilst traversing the Lodge room. For the presentation of the 1st degree tools, 3 brethren stepped forward – an entered apprentice, William Cameron, a Fellowcraft, Chris Walsh and a Past Master, Dave Makinson – collectively known as Borough Lodge’s “3 Degrees”. Their presentation was a joy to witness and murmurs of appreciation were apparent around the room.
The Lodge Warrant, Book of Constitutions and Bye-laws were presented by the Installing and IPM Ian Finney, following which the officers of the Lodge were appointed. Of particular note was the fact that the Lodge appointed 2 Assistant Directors of Ceremonies, with succession in mind, ending with a flawless rendition of the Address to the Stewards from Phil Barr.
The various addresses were then presented as follows:
To the Master – Phil Hughes, to the Wardens – Bryn Proctor and to the Brethren Roy Ashley. All were impeccably demonstrated with sincerity and feeling which appears to flow through all of the work in Borough Lodge.
This completed the ceremony of installation and greetings from the RW Prov GM were brought by Roy Ashley, after which the WM presented cheques to the following charities:
Wigan and Leigh Hospice £100
Ashton Masonic Hall £500
Bolton Hospice £100
St Helens Hospice £570
The Stroke Association £100
Making a very impressive total of £1370.
Once the Charities were honoured and the Principal Guest had retired, the lodge was closed and all retired to a Provincial Bar where a toast to the new WM was proposed by Roy Ashley.
With stomachs lined by a free barrel of beer and a shot of Pusser’s Rum, the retinue attended an excellent Festive Board which was punctuated by the usual Toasts, Responses and the Master’s Song sung by Andy Baxendale accompanied by Frank Laird.
The whole affair from start to finish was splendid and a testament to the members of Borough Lodge who had obviously put a lot of time into the preparations and practices required to facilitate an installation of this calibre.

A great team effort by all involved in the ceremony which was then followed by a very enjoyable festive board.

ORRELL LODGE INSTALLATION
Orrell Lodge Installation 24th February 2026, was a very happy occasion but this year tinged with a little sadness as this would be the last time since its inauguration in December 1970 that the installation would be held at Pemberton Masonic Hall. The hall will official close at the end of May 2026 when Orrell Lodge will move to their new home at Hindley Masonic Hall.
The Lodge was honoured by the presence of WBro. Geoffrey Porter who was the representative of the PGM, along with the Group Chairman WBro. Ian Green and Vice Chairman WBro. Mike Purcell.
This year was the installation of WBro. Gordon Turner who became the WM for the second time, the first time was February 2002. WBro Gordon will in September be celebrating 50 years in Freemasonry, so the Lodge can look forward to sharing his magnificent achievement at our new home at Hindley Masonic Hall in September!
The Installing master WBro Paul Ledson along with his officers did a superb job and everyone who attended had a wonderful evening both in the Lodge room and the at the festive board.
After his installation, WBro. Gordon had the pleasure of giving a number of cheques to WBro Geoffrey for various charities and worthy causes totalling the magnificent sum of £4114.77
