Most websites I'm asked to rescue have the same problem.
They were built with a page builder — quick to drag together, and slow forever afterwards. Forty plugins, a megabyte of code to draw a heading, and no way out without rebuilding it.
I build WordPress by hand instead. About 35KB a page rather than several megabytes, and you own the lot: the site, the code, the domain.
Websites from £200, including a year of UK hosting. Wigan and the North West.
