Ataraxia for All is politically neutral, but we’re always happy to talk to anyone who shares our passion for creating healthier, happier communities.

Yesterday Diana Potora | Food Mentor and I had a great chat with Zack Polanski and Sarah Wakefield, exploring topics that matter to us all: food, health, connection, community and love, and the interconnected and crucial role these play in helping people live well.

We discussed the Fuel Your Heart element of our Heart Smart programme, which is currently running and helping people explore practical, accessible ways to improve their heart health through nutrition, movement, wellbeing, and community support. Part of the programme is also about listening to people, and what they want to see happening locally to help them improve their health and wellbeing.

Whatever people’s political views, we believe there is plenty of common ground when it comes to supporting people to thrive, reducing health inequalities, and building stronger communities. We’re always very keen to share what we’re learning and hear ideas from others who care about these issues too.

According to some DEFRA stats from 2024, more than 85% of homes in Wigan are within 1km of accessible green space. Our borough is 65% green, or green and blue space, and the benefits of getting out in fresh air and surrounding yourself with a bit of that beauty are felt almost immediately. 💚💙

We shared a post yesterday that stated just 20% of mental and emotional distress that feels purely cognitive or circumstantial, is mitigated significantly by 20 mins outside in the fresh air. This is mindfulness in action. The chance to check in with our bodies, check in with the environment, and allow our nervous systems to be soothed.

Freedom from chronic stress and anxiety really can be found on the path you take by making these small and simple steps. It feels too easy and simple to be effective, but it really does work.

Our first ‘Better with Every Breath’ course fully funded under the ‘Heart Smart’ programme takes place Friday 26th June at allears_mha 10am until 12pm.

After a fantastic catch up with some of the Public Health team yesterday we’re absolutely made up to be positioning both Fighter Blueprint Academy and Ataraxia for All as Manbassador sites for our town.

We are a community already filled with mighty good men of all ages, and leading the mandem is CEO of both organisations, . Tom is in demand for his coaching, physical and mindset, not just all over the UK but all over the world, and now he is prioritising more of his time to lead our activities for men’s wellbeing; physical, emotional and mental. We hope to bring a whole host of men’s wellbeing activities to our community in the near future, and welcome more men into our amazing community, where men don’t just survive but thrive.

Men - we’re always listening. Tell us what you’d like to see happening locally to help you feel better and we’ll strive to make it happen for you. 💙

About Manbassadors:
Wigan Manbassadors’ aim is to raise awareness locally of the mental wellbeing issues facing men, helping them to find and use the local services and support they require. It aims to grow a network of local organisations acting as men’s health advocates – ‘Manbassadors’ – who look out for and speak with men they come across. Manbassador sites will be a safe place for men to discuss their wellbeing and to have confidential and person-centred conversations. Manbassadors can signpost to support and help at the earliest point to avoid the need for crisis intervention.

Lovely session. We were blessed with three of the mandem, including the triumphant return of after his ACL surgery (yes Bob). This was fortuitous because Beck and I had just had a wonderful chat with Public Health earlier, leading us to ponder what the mandem want to see happening in our community to help with their wellbeing. 🤍

All sorts of wonderful ideas 💡 came bubbling up while we chatted during a killer leg/glute/hip circuit, and we’re super excited to follow these threads to see where they go.

🤩❤️ Kickstarting those first steps onto the establishment of new healthy habits one welcoming, fun, supportive session at a time. 🙏

✨ What a way to start the week! ✨

We kick-started our Monday with our “Funk your heart out” funded sessions, and the energy was absolutely incredible! 💃🕺❤️

There is nothing better than seeing our community come together, feel motivated, and support each other on their wellness journeys.

A whirlwind weekend absolutely JAM PACKED with activities both funded and fundraising. ❤️ It does our hearts so good to see our community growing and glowing, and our hearts couldn’t be fuller.

We had Strong at Heart, Bags, and Friday Fitness. Saturday saw our Empower with Tarot, and our Kittywake Cruise. Sunday a non stop whirlwind of Sunday Fitness, a mini Devil’s Tunnel walk, For the Girls Wrestling and Journalling, and finally our monthly Soundbath.

Do check our bookings page to see what free and fundraising activities are on offer. There is always something to try - and as our gang find out, the more you do, well, the more you do. 🥰🤍💪🏼🙏

For the Girls - what a session this was! Getting comfortable with the feel of getting grabbed is the absolute basic requirement of setting women off on the path to feeling comfortable learning martial arts skills. We won’t call this ‘self defence’ because the ability to defend oneself effectively only comes from constant and dedicated practice, the same as any valuable skill worth having. And ladies, you’re not going to get that from a day seminar or a crash course.

What these ladies DID get today was plentiful - they fed back that they felt supported to move out of their comfort zones. That they would consider taking a beginners course now. That they felt empowered and proud of the moves they had practiced. That they had FUN.

I was going to put some music over this short reel, but the sound of Beck’s expert coaching and the ladies laughter was too heartwarming to want to drown out. 🥰

Yes the girls! ❤️💪🏼🙌🏼
