Change of name
Pause.Recover. is an independent organisation of people in recovery from substance misuse (peers), who are helping others into recovery. We are not for profit and registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC) under the name ACT Peer Recovery CIC.
Pause.Recover is based in England and offers meetings around the country run by peers and based on Behavioural Science. It is a simple format that originated from 2008 in Portsmouth, and has been growing steadily ever since. It is proven, easy to learn and helps people to build a better life that is meaningful and satisfying. With practice you learn to Pause when life is heading in the wrong direction and Recover so that you change course towards the life that you want. Of course, this is difficult to do, which is why it helps to have the support of your peers.
Meetings are held each week and are run by trained volunteers who have graduated through the Pause. Recover. program themselves. Each meeting is run within clear guidelines which create a safe, confidential and interesting environment to learn new skills. It is a form of experiential learning where activities help people practice the necessary core skills and develop the confidence they need in order to progress in recovery. It requires practice.
In each area where there is a forum the Meeting Leaders belong to. This is a local association of peers who are accountable to each other for maintaining standards. Standards are maintained via materials for each weekly format that are written up and closely followed so as to maintain quality. Each area meets monthly in a local HotSpot day where decisions are taken collectively by the qualified meeting leaders. It is peer led at all levels.
