The Mid-Week Mile-Munchers: 130 Miles of Prime C-Roads ποΈπ¨
Tuesday saw a massive, rare mid-week turnout with 17 bikes lining up on the grid. Our numbers completely blew past expectations, requiring a quick radio-ahead to the cafe to let them know a small army was inbound. Despite the early morning mist and a sharp nip in the air, the turnout of familiar faces was fantastic.
The Outward Leg & The Road Closure Gamble
Leaving Wi******er, we headed out to the A272 and turned onto Wheely Down Road to meet the A32. Arriving at West Meon for the East Meon turn, we were greeted by every biker's favorite puzzle: a βRoad Closed - Access Onlyβ sign.
In true club fashion, we decided to push on and see where the blockage actually was. Fortune favors the bold! The tarmac was completely deserted, giving us a clear, unimpeded run all the way to Langrish at a brilliant, sweeping pace.
With 17 bikes on the road, managing separation was a priority. We skirted Petersfield to keep the pack tight, dropping into the back lanes down to Fernhurst, cutting across the A286 to Lickfield, and dropping back onto the A272 at Halfway Bridge. After a quick regroup, we rode as a solid formation through Petworth and onto that cracking, twisty roller coaster of a road down into Wisborough Green. From there, it was north toward Loxwood before hanging a right for the final stretch to our pitstop.
The Pitstop: Torque Moto βπ§
If you haven't been to Torque Moto yet, get it on your radar. Itβs a fantastic petrolhead-themed coffee roasters and cafe. Unlike so many places nowadays, their prices are still entirely reasonable. After an hour of downing caffeine and talking absolute rubbish, it was time to kick stands up for the return leg.
The Twisties Home
We pointed the front wheels east toward Pease Pottage before heading west down the B2110 through Maplehurst and Nuthurst, crossing the A272 for Partridge Green. With a total route of 130 miles, nobody needed a splash-and-dash at Storrington, which was lucky because more lane closures forced us on a detour down to Amberley and Bury Hill.
We headed north again to pick up the Duncton roadβthe autumn lanes are in spectacular shape right now. We crossed the A283 into some great technical twisties to come out on the A284 at Cocking, before hitting Midhurst, Elstead, South Harting, and finally rolling back into Petersfield.
The Verdict:
130 miles of mostly excellent quality C-roads, cracking elevation changes, and top-tier scenery. A textbook club ride out. Huge thanks to everyone for keeping the formation flawless! π―
