Back in March, Budding Engineers CIC delivered their first ever workshop in a Glasgow School. We delivered four sessions on the day at Wallacewell Primary School in Robroyston, with all the pupils using their iPads.

We have just received their report back from the school and we wanted to share it with you all.

Some of the teachers said they had several ASN pupils in the Class that they didnโ€™t think would engage in the activity, and they were surprised they did, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

You may have noticed that we have been quiet on our socials for a while. Well, a lot has been happening and Liz and I are being kept busy with our funded workshops at the moment. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

Over the last four weeks we have been taking regular trips over to Inverclyde. We have been running three workshops weekly for some amazing individuals over at the OOR CLUBR in Greenock.

Since we started on the 22nd of April we have now completed 12 workshops with 30 individuals, all unique and talented in their own way. All the groups created the same models and the enjoyment that Liz and I have had has been really rewarding. Seeing the smiles on their faces and listening to what they are being taught has all helped to make this a great experience. You only have to see for yourselves, some of the excitement on their faces.

Every single person has tried their hardest and all achieved some great results. A Massive Well Done to you all. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Last June we met Michelle over at an event in Greenock organised by the ASN Parent and Carer Group Inverclyde. We popped along just after the event to the ORR Club to give a wee presentation about what we were about. Michelle then managed to get funding to bring us in and deliver our workshops. So, we would also like to say a big Thank you to Michelle for making this happen and engaging with us. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Over the last three days, we have met some amazing individuals, each with their own talents and skills. Liz Kerr and I are really enjoying engaging with these members of the OOR CLUB.

All of the three groups created our model cup with and without a handle.

We are both very much looking forward to next weeks sessions to create some more models with everyone. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

End of week 1 CAD workshop with the Budding Engineers. Across the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday groups we have managed to get 30 members involved with 3D design and printing.
The budding engineers are going to be with us for 4 weeks looking forward to the next few weeks of learning. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œ

is about celebrating the strengths and talents of people with learning differences like ADHD/Autism Spectrum Conditions Dyslexia/Dyspraxia/Dyscalculia/PDA/Touretteโ€™s Syndrome.

From March 16-22 is also

A week dedicated to the incredible science of the brain.

The wide range of natural neurological variations of the brain affect the way that people think, learn and process information and this is why everyone might learn in a different way. Some people may find tasks a lot easier to do than others. This is the same when learning, what might be good for some, might not be the same for others, some might just take a little longer to process or to understand. No way is wrong. Everyone deserves the same chance as everyone else. ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜„

On Monday we had a mum bring her son along for their first fully funded BlocksCAD session at the New Stevenston Community Hub in Holytown. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

Here is some feedback she wanted us to share.

Today Liz Kerr and I had been invited over to Airdrie Clarkston Parish Church by Cllr Richard Sullivan for an event for Carers.

The event started off with Laura from the Little care hub from North Lanarkshire Disability Forumh. She spoke about how she wanting to engage more with groups from Airdrie.

There was also Colin and Helen from North Lanarkshire Carers Together and two ladies from the Lanarkshire Carers and Councillor Chris Costello - Airdrie Central along with other people from the local area.

It was a great opportunity to network and share information.
Liz and I spoke about Budding Engineers CIC and what we do and also mentioned that we are looking to reach out to families whose children or young adults have an Autism/PDA profile and are EBSA.

As we know there is a need for activities for young ASN people in the Airdrie area. Clarkston Parish Church is a great venue and close to Airdrie too.
How Budding Engineers works is that we find the families and then we look for venues to run our sessions near the families, these can be one2one or group what ever you prefer. We can also work with the pupil support teachers, so that Liz and I can come into the school and work with the young person(s).

We have recently been awarded funding through the Fairer Futures Partnership Tackling Poverty & ASN Fund and this will allow free workshops between now and June 2026 to these families.

Budding Engineers CIC will look to deliver several workshops introducing 3D Design and 3D Printing, teaching some new skills using 3D design software applications. Previous photos of our models and sessions can be found on our page.
If this is of interest to you please send an email to
[email protected] with your name and details and a little information.

A big thank you to the volunteers at the Clarkston parish church for the lovely lunch we had. They run a warm place on a Thursday and the food was delicious. We also met another two councillors, Cllr Lesley Jarvie for Airdrie Centralr and Councillor Margaret Hughes during our lunch.

We would like to share this story of a family who received a recycled device from us back in November 2023.

The family would also like to thank Lanarkshire Carers, Kanokwai Judo Club and Mindroom for the help and support they received.

We know there are many ASN families struggling so hopefully this story might provide a little hope. If you are interested in finding out more about the Judo club in Bellshill, contact them directly.

We would like to thank Ian Stewart for sharing this amazing story with us and wish Jaden the very best of luck in his future competitions.

Gosh, we canโ€™t believe it that last Friday was our fourth session over at Airdrie Academy. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The first few weeks has had its teething problem, but last Friday went very well indeed. Some amazing burgers were created. One of the pupils even had time to design his own chip box. This is a design we will be looking to introduce into our designs going forward. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคซ

Well done to you all, you are an extremely talented group of pupils and we look forward to inspiring you with some more 3D Designs. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
