RNLI Wick Lifeboat We are the RNLI: the charity that saves lives at sea. Since 1824, our lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved more than 140,000 lives.

Our mission is to save lives at sea, our goal is to stop drowning. We do this through water safety education, operating search and rescue lifeboats and operating beach lifeguards.

The flag at Wick RNLI’s lifeboat station has been lowered to half mast, following the announcement by Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Station that following a medical incident at their lifeboat station , a much-loved and respected member of the crew sadly passed away.

The thoughts of everyone at Wick lifeboat station are with our colleagues and friends at Hastings during this very sad, difficult and distressing time. We also extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and all those affected by this sad loss.

We would ask everyone to respect the privacy of the crew, and especially that of the family and friends, as they come to terms with such a tragic event.

New Lifeboat – Delivery Update

Following the completion of the build of our new lifeboat and the recent bell-ringing ceremony, the boat has now entered its commissioning/trials phase.

As part of this process, a number of items have been identified that require some further work and testing before the boat can be formally handed over. As a result, the anticipated delivery date has unfortunately had to be postponed.

We would like to reassure everyone that this is a normal part of commissioning and trials with a new vessel. It is important that these final items are fully completed and satisfactory before the boat begins its service with us. We are hopeful that the delay will not be too long and will keep everyone updated as soon as a new delivery date is confirmed.

In the meantime, our crew are taking the opportunity to continue their essential training aboard Shannon 13-40, the training lifeboat for the same class of vessel as our new boat.

The crew are currently making their way north, travelling from Dublin to Oban today, then Oban to Portree on Friday, Longhope on Saturday, and arriving back in Wick on Sunday.

This valuable passage training will give our crew further experience and familiarisation with the new class of lifeboat, ensuring that they are ready to operate our own vessel safely and confidently when it finally arrives.

We know everyone is eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new lifeboat, and we really appreciate your patience and continued support.

A Wick Lifeboat Legend Spotted in Whitehaven!

Pictured in Whitehaven last week by Mark Cormack is one of Wick’s most successful lifeboats — The City of Edinburgh, now sailing under the name Saltire.

The City of Edinburgh began her service at Wick in 1938, and just a year later answered her first wartime callout. On 23 October 1939, she was launched following reports that an RAF aircraft was missing.

During her remarkable 30 years of service at Wick, from 1938 to 1968, she was launched an incredible 133 times and was officially credited with saving 204 lives.

A truly remarkable record — and a proud part of Wick Lifeboat history.

It’s always special to see one of our former lifeboats still afloat and remember the crews who went to sea in her, often in the most challenging conditions.

TODAY’S THE DAY - HELMSDALE FINISH LINE! 💙🚶‍♀️

The girls are on their final stretch to Helmsdale today after an incredible few days of walking! 👏🥰

If you’re nearby, come along and help us give them the welcome they deserve! Stalls will be open from 1pm, ready for the girls arriving afterwards.

There’ll be tea, coffee & juice ☕️, pancakes, raffles, Lucky Duck 🦆 and the lifeboat will be in attendance! 🚤

There’ll also be kiddies’ yellows available so the little ones can get their photo taken at Garry’s boat 💛

Come along, enjoy the afternoon and most importantly, help us cheer the girls over that finish line!

BERRIEDALE ✅👏

Another huge day completed - and the girls made it into Berriedale at 18:28 this evening, crossing the bridge with smiles still firmly intact! 🥰

They’re down to a mighty team of three today 💪 and despite the sore feet, sore legs and plenty of miles behind them, they’re still going strong!

They reached Latheronwheel around lunchtime for a much-needed pit stop, then Dunbeath at about 3pm. Conditions were a little more bearable today… until Dunbeath, when things started getting rather more challenging again! 🫣

But they pushed on and made it safely into Berriedale, where they’re now enjoying a very well-earned cup of tea ☕️😂 An amazing achievement after another long day on their feet.

And thankfully, they’re in for a slightly more comfortable night tonight! 🙌 Berriedale Estate have very kindly donated a night in one of their cottages for the girls ❤️ A particularly welcome gesture after their tent collapsed on top of them at 3am last night, followed by a cockerel deciding 6am was an appropriate wake-up call! 🤣🐓⛺️ Safe to say there wasn’t a huge amount of sleep before today’s miles!

A massive thank you to Berriedale Estate for looking after them tonight - we’re sure three beds have never been more appreciated! 🥰

Tomorrow - Helmsdale! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️

It’ll be an extra special final stretch tomorrow, as they’ll be meeting Garry’s widow, Lorna, at the Ord to walk the last section together ❤️

For now though… feet up, tea in hand and a well-earned rest before they do it all again tomorrow!

🚶‍♀️ LYBSTER ✅ 🚶‍♀️

The girls made it into Lybster at 19:11 this evening - tired, sore-footed but, somehow, still in great spirits! 👏🏽

It’s been a tough day, particularly from Bruan onwards. Whaligoe brought some very challenging conditions, with barely any paths in places, some sections very close to the edge 🫣 and even a burn that had to be crossed while holding onto a fence! Safe to say there were a few moments where they were wondering what they’d signed themselves up for 😂

Seeing Camilla and the team waiting for them towards the end was a very welcome sight and there were definitely a few emotions as they finally made their way into Lybster ❤️

The donations and messages of support coming in throughout the day have really spurred them on, so thank you so much to everyone who has supported them so far 🥰.

Feet are sore, legs are tired… but they’re fed, watered and apparently ready to go again tomorrow! 🤣🫣

What a shift, ladies! 💪🚤💙
