A huge thank you to Emma, Community Champion at Tesco Rawtenstall, for choosing The Lighthouse as part of their June food collection 💙

You’ll now find our collection basket and banner in store, where customers can donate items to help support local people and families in need. Our amazing volunteers will collect donations a couple of times each week.

We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support from Tesco and the local community… every donation really does make a difference.

A huge thank you to Whitworth Town Council and Mayor Janet Whitehead for their generous donation of £300 to The Lighthouse.

We were delighted to receive this funding from the Mayor’s Charity Fund, which was raised through a fantastic year of community fundraising and support.

The contribution will help us continue providing vital support, food, friendship and practical assistance to people in our local community.

Congratulations to all the other organisations who received funding, and thank you to everyone who donated, attended events and supported the Mayor’s fundraising efforts throughout the year. Together, we’re making a real difference in Whitworth. 💙

Good luck to our local team, Rochdale AFC, as they head to Wembley today 💙⚽

Everyone at The Lighthouse Community Foodshare, Whitworth will be cheering the Dale on in the National League Promotion Final. What an achievement for the club, the players, the staff and the fantastic supporters.

One final push, let’s hope the Dale get back where they belong 💙🙌

A great evening last weekend celebrating Marilyn Jones being made an Honorary Townsman of Whitworth. It’s a rare honour, and well deserved for everything she’s done supporting the community over the years.

In her speech, Marilyn gave special thanks to Vida Slater, with whom she started the Rochdale soup kitchen in 2013, and later The Lighthouse in Whitworth in 2020. She also thanked all the amazing volunteers who have supported both organisations over the years.

A lovely event and good to see it so well supported. Congratulations Marilyn! ❤️

Help us keep the light shining

The Lighthouse Community Foodshare is looking for friendly volunteers to join our amazing team supporting local people in need.

Every week we provide food and essential supplies to families across the Whitworth, Rochdale and Rossendale areas — and we can’t do it without our volunteers.
We are 100% volunteer run and led.

Could you spare a few hours?

We need help with:
🥫 Unpacking, Sorting and organising food donations
📦 General cleaning and recycling
🤝 Welcoming and supporting clients
🚗 Collecting donations (driver role- various stores deliver to LH)
☕ General help on the days we are open

No experience needed — just a kind heart and a willingness to help.
