🌿 The Whittlesford Lawn Trust Needs You! 🌿

The Whittlesford Lawn Trust (WLT) is a local charity, run by a small group of volunteer trustees who give their time to look after and manage activities on the village lawn. Funding comes mainly from the Parish Council and the sports clubs who rent the space, helping us keep the lawn a well-loved hub for the whole community.

We’re currently on the lookout for a Treasurer to join our friendly team. You don’t need to be a finance professional—just comfortable with numbers and happy to lend a hand. If you’ve got a few spare hours each month, this is a fantastic way to support your community.

What you’d be doing:
• Setting up and approving payments
• Keeping track of receipts, invoices, and payments
• Creating and maintaining a simple budget
• Running basic reports from our accounting software
• Working with our accountants to prepare and file annual accounts

What we’re looking for:
• Someone organised and reliable
• Happy working with figures (no specialist qualifications needed)
• Keen to support the village and help keep the lawn in great condition for everyone to enjoy

If this sounds like you—or you’d just like to know more—please get in touch with Richard Redman (Chair of the WLT):

Come join us and help keep the lawn thriving for generations to come! 🌱

Re: the alcohol license application

Dear fellow villagers,

We wish to clarify and reassure residents about the proposal to seek a licence for alcohol consumption in and around the Lawn pavilion. It is intended to ensure that alcoholic drinks are sold under a strict legal basis, mainly during and after football and cricket matches, and with accompanying food. The 12:00 until 8:00pm time window is a blanket cover for early or late Kick offs, including 2 to 3 hours after a match.

The license is intended for matches on a Saturday or Sunday only. This is to control and make safe and legal the consumption of alcohol whilst raising funds. Having a licence will ensure that alcohol is properly regulated. It will also cover other village events the clubs are often involved in, such as summer fetes, or mulled wine at carol singing.

I am named because I have personal licence which is required to apply for a premises licence. I am the health and welfare officer for the Whittlesford United Football Club (WUFC), and with the merger of the under 17’s into the club, we have had extra training for safe guarding and CRB checks. I will be the person responsible for ensuring that the consumption of alcohol at the pavilion continues without anti-social behaviour or nuisance to the local residents whilst ensuring compliance with the law.

The sports clubs are not sustainable without some kind of income. Other local villages have similar arrangements and are self-sufficient. While sport will continue on the Lawn and with use of the pavilion, the Lawn Trust is trying to ensure proper control of the sale and use of alcoholic drinks to benefit the clubs, players and guests; we want to provide a facility and service not only for our own village clubs, but also one that is comparable to those provided by clubs in other villages, so that we can provide the same safe level of hospitality.

The Lawn Trust believes this will be a benefit to the village and participants in sport, and hope that people will support it.

Yours sincerely
Richard Redman (Chairman of WUFC and Trustee of the Lawn Trust).
