☀️ Staying Safe in Hot Weather – Tips for Carers ☀️

In this hot weather, when temperatures rise, it’s important to take extra care of those you support – and yourself too.

Here are a few helpful tips from Carers Support East Kent to stay safe and comfortable in the heat:

🌿 Keep hydrated
Encourage regular drinks throughout the day – water, squash, or diluted fruit juice are great options. Even if someone doesn’t feel thirsty, small, frequent sips help prevent dehydration.

🏡 Keep cool indoors
Close curtains or blinds during the hottest part of the day and open windows early morning or evening when it’s cooler. A fan can also help improve airflow.

👕 Dress for the weather
Light, loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics will help keep body temperature down.

🕶️ Avoid the midday sun
Try to schedule outings or activities in the early morning or later evening when temperatures are lower.

🧴 Protect skin
Use sunscreen, wear hats, and seek shade if you’re spending time outdoors.

👀 Watch for signs of heat exhaustion
Look out for symptoms like dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating, or confusion – and act quickly by moving to a cooler place and offering fluids.

💙 Don’t forget yourself
Carers often put others first, but your wellbeing matters too. Take breaks, stay cool, and reach out if you need support.

💙 The Power of Connection: Why Carers Need Community 💙

Caring for someone is an incredibly meaningful role but it can also feel isolating. Many Carers spend their days juggling responsibilities, appointments, and emotional support, often leaving little time for themselves. It’s no surprise that so many Carers end up feeling alone.

That’s exactly why community matters.

Having people who understand your experiences, listen without judgement, and offer support can make all the difference.

If you’re feeling isolated, reaching out is a powerful first step.

At Carers Support East Kent, we’re here to help you find connection, understanding, and the support you deserve because caring for someone shouldn’t mean caring alone.

Every caring journey has a story 💙

Caring for someone else can be deeply meaningful and profoundly challenging. Many Carers tell us that behind the daily routines, appointments, and quiet moments of worry, there are emotions that often go unspoken.

Carers experiences often reflect resilience, loneliness, hope, and the rediscovery of self, feelings so many Carers recognise but don’t always have space to share.

📖 You can read this and other real experiences on our Carer Stories page: https://carersek.org.uk/category/carer-stories/
