Last week our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts visited the EE Contact Centre in Gosforth as part of our ongoing partnership and community challenge with EE. The young people absolutely loved it. They got stuck in, asked loads of questions and really enjoyed the activities that helped them work towards their Digital Skills, Maker and Challenge badges. They all came out buzzing and really enjoyed the visit.

A huge thank you to everyone at EE who made us feel so welcome, and especially to Dawn who is not only one of EE’s community champions but also a Scout leader in Benton District. It is brilliant to have someone who gives so much of their time to support young people both at work and in Scouting.

The 9th really appreciate it. Thank you again for a fantastic visit!

A Friday at the 9th Whitley Bay. An investiture for our youngest and newest members of our Scouting family and Squirrel Drey (and some new volunteer leaders!). Then an evening scaling dizzy heights at the climbing wall at Hadrian Leisure Centre with the Scouts.

Drop us a message if you would like to join us!

A huge thank you once again to our friends at EE/BT, who’ve been supporting us through their Community Challenge programme.

Phase 2 of our building revamp is now largely complete, and the results are fantastic. The woodwork and front door are now a smart Scouts green, and the small room and hallways are clean, bright and freshly painted in white. The difference has been noticed by everyone. Parents and young people have been full of compliments as sessions restart, and there’s a real sense of pride in our Scout HQ again.

We’ve also had new flooring installed throughout the hall and small room, which really brings everything together and makes the whole place feel brighter, cleaner and more welcoming than ever.

We’re especially grateful to the EE/BT volunteers who’ve gone the extra mile – quite literally – with around 50 staff taking on a hike up Helvellyn to raise funds for the 9th. We are genuinely humbled by the level of commitment and generosity shown.

As part of the fundraising effort, EE/BT have also organised a fantastic raffle with some brilliant prizes. Tickets are available from the our HQ. Pop along during any session if you’d like to buy some and support the cause.

We’re proud of what’s been achieved so far and we’re very much looking forward to continuing this partnership right through to Christmas.

Photos included below show just how much progress has been made.

Also many thanks to North Tyneside VODA for their support throughout this process.

A Huge Thank You to EE/BT!

Last week the incredible volunteer teams from EE and BT Gosforth worked tirelessly to help transform our Scout Hut. Their commitment went far beyond lending a hand — they also held a sponsored “Big Sleep Out”, raising over £1,000 from volunteer staff to support Scouting at the 9th and with Whitley Bay & District Scouts.

In the photos you can see just some of the amazing people who gave their time and energy. The difference they’ve made is clear for all to see: our HQ, once looking weathered, worn and somewhat battered, now stands fully repainted with multiple coats of fresh paint. It looks absolutely fantastic, and we can’t wait to throw open the doors and welcome our sections back soon.

What makes this even more special is that the partnership doesn’t stop here. EE/BT will continue to support and work with us throughout the year, and we are genuinely excited about the opportunities this will bring — from further practical improvements to sharing valuable digital skills with our young people.

This has been a true display of teamwork, community spirit and generosity. The EE/BT teams have not only given our building a new lease of life but also set an inspiring example of service and dedication that our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will carry with them.

On behalf of everyone at the 9th Whitley Bay Scout Group: thank you. You’ve left a lasting mark on our group, and we’re so excited for the adventures ahead in our brighter, better HQ.

Community Heroes in Action!

Over the last four days, our Scout Hut has been transformed thanks to the dedicated volunteer teams from EE and BT Gosforth.

What began on Saturday has continued with energy and commitment: the outside of our hut, which had become shabby and tired, has been brought back to life. Inside, the smaller of our two rooms, the toilets and the hallways are all being refreshed, making a real difference to the space our young people use every week.

We are hugely grateful to the EE / BT teams for giving their time, skills and hard work. Their teamwork and commitment reflect the very values we try to instil in our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. A big thank you also to North Tyneside VODA for connecting us with this opportunity.

And this is only the beginning. EE and BT will continue to support us through the year, including digital skills sessions with our young people later in 2025.

This project is about more than paint and repairs. It is about creating a welcoming, safe and inspiring place for the next generation of Scouts, and building a base that can play a bigger role in the wider Whitley Bay community for years to come.
