The Sea Cadets are a nationwide voluntary uniformed youth organisation, open to all young people aged 12 to 18, Marine Cadets for young people aged 13 to 18 and with Junior Sections open to those of 9 to 12 years of age. It is Britain's most successful nautical organisation for the development of young people with Units run by enthusiastic adult volunteers. We have a rank structure modelled on that of the Royal Navy, giving Cadets an opportunity to progress and take up positions of responsibility as they acquire skills and seniority. On reaching 18, many Cadets choose to stay on as adult instructors, when their training and talents become invaluable. The remit of the Sea Cadets is to provide fun, friendship, adventure and learning new skills based on waterborne and land based activities.

Whitley Bay Sea Cadets needs volunteers with practical business experience to help with the management of the unit.
Whitley Bay Sea Cadets has many roles to match your profession, such as managing finances and budgets, fundraising for the unit, organising events, writing press releases for local media, and building corporate relationships with local businesses.
The unit’s Chair, MR M Ross, said: “We need adults to share their professional skills and experience in the Sea Cadet unit to help us thrive in the local community. You can help give the unit direction, identifying what it needs to make it an enjoyable experience for young people.
“We are an independent charity that relies on volunteers in the local community to help make a positive difference to the lives of so many young people in your area.”
Volunteers are supported by a network of other volunteers and employees. As a new volunteer, you will receive an induction, training and support to help you feel comfortable in your role. We are always there to provide ongoing help and support.
Whitley Bay Sea Cadets opened in June 1943 in Monkseaton. It has supported thousands of young people in North Tyneside to learn nautical skills, with Fifty cadets currently attending, supported by 10 volunteers. However, more are always welcome.
Whitley Bay is part of the national charity Sea Cadets, which gives young people a new perspective. We broaden horizons and create possibilities. Working across the UK with 14,000 young people between 10 and 18, we help them see the world with confidence, gained through the challenge of nautical adventure and a Royal Navy ethos. Our aim is to help more young people to see the future that they want – and make that future happen.
The unit is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 pm till 9 pm, and meets at Whitley Bay Sea Cadets, Fairways, Monkseaton, NE25 8TP. Visit: www.sea-cadets.org/whitleybay to find out how you can join.

The Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and gives young people a head start in life through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work both directly with young people and behind the scenes to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities.

Whitley Bay Sea Cadets, based in Monkseaton behind Wilsons Courts, Bromley Ave, is currently looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Secretary to join its Unit Management Team (UMT). Whitley Bay Unit is a long-established Sea Cadet Unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We currently have 55 cadets from across North Tyneside.

After the success of last years Cadet Christmas dinner, we are happy to announce that we will be holding this years dinner at Wallsend Sea Cadets on the 19th of December 2026.

This is open to ALL Cadets in Northumberland District Sea Cadets and we like to see as many of you as possible.

We will also need Staff from accross the District to help with service.

Cost is £10.00 and this is to be paid into your CO by the end of November.

WEATHER WARNING! (Unit Closure)

Good morning,

Although we are not with the amber warning zone temperatures are still expecting to reach 20° this evening with low cloud cover and high UV levels.

With this in mind we have assessed the risk to our ships company, come to the conclusion outdoor activities bring high exposure to weather related illnesses and activities within the unit likely to even warmer pushing high 20s due to the set up of our building.

The Unit Command Team have decided the safety measures are to close the Unit for training this evening reopening on Friday, we shall carry out essential Staff up-skills.

We apologies there with be no parade night this evening but we hope you enjoy and evening in the sun, please stay safe.
