Hello Whiteley,
Despite the weather It’s been a busy and rewarding week working with some fantastic young people across our community.
I was invited to Cornerstone Church of England Primary School Whiteley as part of their Future Opportunities Week, where I spoke to Year 5 and 6 pupils about my role as an Accredited Community Safety Officer.
I also visited 2nd Whiteley Cubs, where we talked about my role, anti-social behaviour, and how to stay safe – particularly around areas such as the railway line and abandoned buildings.
Across all three sessions, the young people were incredibly engaged, inquisitive, and eager to learn.
They asked some brilliant questions throughout.
Here are just a few:
What is anti-social behaviour?
Anti-social behaviour covers a range of nuisance and criminal behaviours that cause distress to others. Whether something is classed as anti-social behaviour often depends on the impact it has on people.
Examples include:
Noisy or abusive behaviour
Vandalism and graffiti
Intimidation
Public drunkenness
Littering and fly-tipping
Illegal drug use
Excessive noise, including barking dogs
Is your body-worn camera on all the time?
No – it is not on constantly. If I need to activate it, I will always make people aware. It is used to capture evidence when necessary.
Why do you wear a red uniform?
I wear a red uniform as an Accredited Community Safety Officer with powers granted by Hampshire Police.
This helps distinguish my role from Police Community Support Officers (blue uniform) and Police Officers (black uniform).
Thank you to everyone who invited me along this week.
It’s always a privilege to support and engage with our young people and help them feel safe, informed, and confident.
Stay safe
Sarah 🦺
