Today we remember everyone lost in the Great Disaster of 14 October 1881, when a fierce storm claimed the lives of 189 fishermen from communities along the south-east coast.

More than a century later, their courage, sacrifice and dedication to providing for their families continue to inspire us. We also remember the wives, mothers, children and entire communities whose lives were changed forever.

We will never forget those who went to sea and never returned.

SHOUT OUT- 2026 has arrived

Today begins the week (5-11 October) of people across the UK taking a deep breathe and calming their nerves as they participate.

Working from South Queensferry to Alnwick, I see first-hand the challenges when someone is struggling with their mental health, facing financial hardship, dealing with illness or injury, coping with loss, or simply trying to get through a difficult time, The Fishermen's Mission is there to help.

That's why the Big Dip matters.

Every person taking the plunge this week is helping us continue that support. They are helping us be there when a fisherman needs someone to talk to, when a family needs practical help, or when life's challenges become too much to face alone.

So, if you see Big Dip photos appearing over the next few days, give them a like, leave a comment, or share them with friends and family. Behind every splash is a reason, and behind every donation is support for fishermen and their families.

If you haven't donated, it isn't to late. Follow the link and drop by our fundraising page and support us in this nationwide adventure.

Good luck to everyone taking part this week. You've got this!

Take part your way during the first week of October. Whether you dip a toe or dive right in, sign-up for free by starting your fundraising page. Or you can simply donate directly to our Big Dip appeal if you prefer to stay dry.
