We are passionate about our feral and our TNR work.

We are a charity based on the south coast, with over 30 years experience of cat welfare and rescue, we are passionate about cats, their well-being and our community! RESCUE WORK
We rescue stray or abandoned cats and kittens and work to re-home them into secure, loving homes once they have undergone extensive medical checks/treatment and of course are old enough. In the case of feral cats, where they cannot be domesticated, we will neuter them, address any health concerns and either return them to their original home if possible or alternatively find a suitable new home. When feral kittens are found, we work slowly to socialise them and transform them from hissy, spitty little fireballs, into loving and playful kittens. ORPHANS
When kittens have been abandoned or orphaned we have an expert team of carers and equipment, and can hand-rear around the clock, saving hundreds of defenceless lives since we began. ADOPTION

THREE BOYS. THREE SECOND CHANCES. ONE EXTRAORDINARY WOMAN

Some adopters leave a lasting impression on us. Gemma is one of them

Let us tell you a little story about three boys who, at different times, found themselves in our care.

ALI – MARCH 2023
Just a year old, Ali arrived covered in abscesses from fighting. Life had clearly been tough for this young boy, and to make matters worse, he tested positive for FIV

But Ali's luck was about to change when along came Gemma, who didn't see a diagnosis. She saw a cat who deserved to be loved. And home he went.

HUDSON – FEBRUARY 2025
Almost two years later, Hudson came into our lives.

He arrived cold, unneutered, unchipped and in an absolutely dreadful state. He had open, infected wounds on his leg and ear, an abscess on his chest, deep, infected skin lesions on his neck, covered in pus, and puncture wounds on both shoulders.

Another boy who had clearly been fighting to survive. And another positive FIV test.

But guess who was waiting in the wings? Gemma.

Hudson joined Ali and they were soon the best of friends

TAZ – OCTOBER 2026
And then, just last month, along came Taz. Only a year old. Unneutered. FIV positive.

Another young boy who deserved a future every bit as wonderful as any other cat.

We probably don't need to tell you what happened next...Gemma adopted him too.

And just like that, a family of three boys was complete

Three boys. Three different journeys. Three FIV diagnoses.

And one extraordinary woman who never once let those three little letters define them. She gave them a chance and she gave them each other.

Looking at these photos and watching the video of all three boys together, it's hard not to feel a little emotional. Because we remember how they arrived. We remember the wounds, the infections, the fear and the uncertainty.

And now look at them. Safe. Loved. Together.

Gemma, thank you. Not just for adopting three of our boys, but for seeing what we've always seen in them. That they are so much more than a positive test result.

This is why we rescue. This is why we never give up on them. And this is what a second chance looks like.

AUSTEN & BOELO – A VERY SPECIAL UPDATE

Our gorgeous little Austen and Boelo have been to see Scott at Adelaide Veterinary Centre this afternoon, and we now have confirmation that both kittens are deaf.

When we first told you about Boelo, we described how he had been shouting almost constantly since being found. The thought of that tiny kitten, lost and frightened, calling out into a world he couldn’t hear was heartbreaking enough. Now we know that his little sister Austen is deaf too.

But here’s the important bit. Being deaf doesn’t mean these kittens can’t live perfectly happy, wonderful lives.

Deaf cats are just as playful, affectionate, mischievous and capable of forming incredible bonds with their humans as hearing cats. They simply experience the world differently.

They rely much more heavily on their other senses. They feel vibrations, watch movements, learn routines and respond to visual cues. They might not hear you calling their names, but they’ll soon learn what it means when you appear with their dinner!

There are, however, some important considerations.

❤️ They must live indoors, or have access to a completely secure, cat-proof garden. They cannot hear approaching cars, dogs or other dangers.

❤️ They need people who understand that they can be startled if approached unexpectedly, particularly when sleeping.

❤️ They need patience, consistency and a home where communication is through touch, sight and routine rather than sound.

❤️ And most importantly, they need someone who sees their deafness not as a disability that defines them, but simply as part of who they are.

We will be looking for a very special home for these two little souls, together. They’ve already been through so much, and having each other as they navigate their silent world is something we have to preserve.

For now, they’re safe, they’re loved, and they’re blissfully unaware that there’s anything different about them.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

They don’t need to hear the words “I love you” to know that they’re loved.

AUSTEN & BOELO – SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON

At the weekend, we told you about a young black cat found in Emsworth who was rushed to the emergency vet with pyometra.

We were desperately worried that she might have kittens somewhere, so we put out an urgent appeal asking you all to share her story.

And thank goodness we did. ❤️

Thanks to your incredible response, we learned that TWO tiny kittens had been found very close to where she was discovered.

Now, we don't believe in coincidences, and two kittens turning up in almost exactly the same location as a poorly female cat certainly raised our suspicions.

Thanks to all of you sharing our appeal, we were able to make contact with the two lovely families who had taken the kittens in and kept them safe.

Both kittens are now in our care. ❤️

Meet Austen and Boelo. 🐾

❤️ Little Austen is absolutely tiny. She's suffering from flea anaemia, which can be incredibly dangerous in such a small kitten, but she's receiving the care she needs and is getting stronger by the minute.

💙 And then there's Boelo. When we first spoke to the family who had found him, we could hear him shouting away in the background. We even commented that the poor little chap must have given himself a sore throat with all that yelling

At the time, the thought of a tiny kitten, lost and frightened, crying desperately for his mum was heartbreaking enough.

But yesterday, we began to realise there might be something even more heartbreaking about Boelo's story. He hadn't stopped shouting.

And as we watched him, we noticed something else. He wasn't reacting to sounds in the way we'd expect a kitten to.

After carrying out some very basic, admittedly crude tests, we now strongly suspect that little Boelo is deaf.

And suddenly, all that shouting takes on a completely different meaning. 😢

Imagine being so tiny, separated from everything familiar, frightened and alone. Imagine calling and calling for your mum, but never being able to hear her answer.

Not hearing her comforting little chirps. Not hearing your siblings. Not even being able to hear the world around you.

A little boy shouting into a world of silence. 💔

We can't know exactly what Boelo experienced, but the thought of how frightened and confused he may have been absolutely breaks our hearts.

Of course, we won't know for certain whether he's deaf until he's had his veterinary assessment, but we're already adapting how we interact with him, just in case.

And here's the most important thing.

He doesn't need to shout for someone to find him anymore.

He's safe. He's warm. He's loved. And he's got an entire team of people making sure he never has to feel lost again. ❤️

We don't yet know whether these two babies belong to the little girl found at the weekend, but the circumstances are certainly compelling.

What we DO know is that because you shared one little cat's story, two more little lives have been brought to safety.

To the families who took Austen and Boelo in, thank you for keeping them safe until we could collect them.

And to every single person who shared our appeal, THIS is why we ask you to share our posts.

You never know who might see them, what information might come to light, or whose life you might help save.

FROM BROKEN BONES TO A LITTLE BOY’S BEST FRIEND

If ever there was a video that reminded us why we do what we do, this is it.

Our gorgeous boy Geoff came into our care following a horrific road traffic accident. He had suffered a ruptured abdominal wall and multiple pelvic fractures. He needed major surgery, weeks of recovery and an awful lot of love and care.

There were some very difficult days, but Geoff was a fighter, and we were determined to give him the future he deserved.

And just look at him now. Safe, loved, happy and playing with his very own little human.

His mum sent us this gorgeous video, along with a message that absolutely made our day “You guys found us the perfect match! He is fabulous.”

And that’s exactly what we work so hard to achieve.

YES, WE ABSOLUTELY REHOME CATS TO FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN!

We know that some families worry they’ll be turned down by rescues simply because they have young children.

But that’s not how we work.

We don’t believe that having children should automatically rule anyone out of adopting a cat. What matters is finding the right cat for the right family.

Some cats thrive in busy family homes, love playing and enjoy being part of everything. Others need a quieter environment. Neither is right or wrong. They’re simply different.

We spend a huge amount of time getting to know the personalities, needs and quirks of the cats in our care, and we work just as hard to understand the families hoping to adopt them.

Because successful adoption isn’t about finding the first available home. It’s about finding the perfect match.

And we think children growing up with cats can be a wonderful thing. They learn kindness, compassion, patience and respect for animals. Equally, it’s important that children are taught to recognise when a cat wants attention, when they need space and how to interact gently and safely. Supervision and giving cats somewhere peaceful to retreat are essential.

When everyone understands and respects each other, the friendships that develop can be incredibly special.

Just look at Geoff and his little best friend.

To think that this beautiful boy was once lying seriously injured, facing major surgery and an uncertain future, and is now enjoying the simple happiness of playing with a child who adores him.

This is what rescue is all about. Not just saving lives, but giving those lives a future worth fighting for.

** UPDATE - KITTENS FOUND AND SAFE **

🚨 URGENT – EMSWORTH – DO YOU RECOGNISE THIS LITTLE GIRL? 🚨

This young girl was found in Emsworth today.

The second she arrived with us, it was immediately apparent that she was suffering from pyometra – a potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus.

She is now on her way to the emergency vet for urgent treatment. ❤️‍🩹

She IS microchipped, but unfortunately the registered details are incorrect, so we have been unable to trace her owner.

WE URGENTLY NEED TO FIND OUT WHERE SHE HAS COME FROM.

Our biggest concern, alongside her own health, is that she may have kittens somewhere who are waiting for their mum to come home.

If she has recently given birth, there could be tiny, vulnerable kittens out there who desperately need our help.

ABSOLUTELY FUMING.

Apparently, the clocks go back an hour tonight.

EXCUSE ME?!

Who authorised this? Was there a meeting? Was I consulted? NO.

The humans are all smug because they think they’re getting an extra hour in bed.

OH, YOU SWEET, DELUDED IDIOTS.

I have been fed at 7am for YEARS. I have a routine. I have standards. I have a stomach the size of a walnut and the appetite of a starving hippopotamus.

You can move your clocks, your watches and your stupid little phones.

YOU WILL NOT MOVE MY BREAKFAST.

I shall therefore be implementing the following emergency measures:

🐾 5.00am – Sit on human’s chest and stare directly into their soul.

🐾 5.15am – Begin licking my own backside VERY LOUDLY.

🐾 5.30am – Knock something expensive off the bedside table.

🐾 5.45am – Scream like a smoke alarm with a dying battery. But louder. And with considerably more attitude.

🐾 6.00am – Inform the humans that I am now legally deceased from starvation.

🐾 7.01am – Refuse the breakfast I’ve been demanding because it’s the wrong flavour.

And before anyone suggests I simply wait another hour…

BILLIE'S EMERGENCY SURGERY – NOT QUITE THE PLAN WE HAD!

Our beautiful little Billie has had a rather dramatic couple of days.

As many of you know, Billie and her brother Obi were born with Eyelid Agenesis, a condition which means their eyelids didn't develop properly before birth. This has caused significant damage to their eyes, with poor little Billie suffering perforations to her corneas.

Both kittens need complex reconstructive surgery, and we had planned for Billie's operation to take place in a few weeks, giving her a little more time to grow and gain strength.

But on Thursday, those plans went straight out of the window.

Billie's ruptured eye suddenly began causing problems, and it became clear that surgery simply couldn't wait, so yesterday morning, our brave little girl went into theatre.

Sadly, her ruptured eye was beyond saving and had to be removed. We always knew this was a possibility, but it's still heartbreaking that such a tiny kitten has already had to endure so much.

However, there was a little silver lining to this unexpected turn of events. Originally, the plan had been to reconstruct Billie's remaining left eyelid using a technique called 'lip to lid' surgery, where tissue from the lip is used to create a new eyelid.

Instead, the surgeon was able to use tissue from around the eye that had been removed to reconstruct her left eyelid. One operation, two very important procedures, and hopefully a much more comfortable future for our little girl

Billie is now recovering with her wonderful foster mum, Trev, who is making sure she's comfortable and receiving plenty of love.

The photographs aren't pretty, and we appreciate that some people may find them upsetting. But this is the reality of the work we do.

Rescue isn't always easy, sometimes it's difficult decisions, emergency surgery, frightening complications and desperately hoping that everything will be okay.

Billie still has some healing to do, and we'll be watching her remaining eye very carefully. But she's come through a huge operation, and we're incredibly proud of her.

A huge thank you to her surgical and nursing team at Optivet Referrals and to Trev for taking such wonderful care of our precious girl.

And to every single person who supports us - this is exactly why your support means so much as it was your support that made it possible for us to help Billie and Obi. This is why we fight so hard to keep going. And this is why we simply cannot give up on cats like Billie

MABEL UPDATE – JUST LOOK AT HER NOW!

Remember our beautiful Mabel? The gorgeous girl who fought FIP and stole so many hearts along the way.

Well, just look at her now!

From a very poorly little girl battling a disease that was once considered a death sentence, to this magnificent, fluffy, blue-eyed beauty!

Mabel was one of our FIP warriors, undergoing treatment and receiving lots of love and care before finding her forever home with one of the wonderful team at Lumbry Park.

And as you can see, she’s absolutely thriving!

She’s clearly mastered the art of being a cat, too. Expensive beds? No thank you. A battered cardboard box will do nicely.

Seeing Mabel looking so happy, healthy and thoroughly spoilt makes everything worthwhile.

FIP is a cruel disease, but thanks to advances in treatment, it no longer has to be the death sentence it once was. Mabel is living proof of just how much of a difference that treatment can make.

This is why we do what we do. Every difficult case, every sleepless night, every veterinary bill. Because behind every one of them is a little life worth fighting for.

Happy ever after, beautiful Mabel. You deserve every bit of it. 💙🐾

Rescue is always better when we work together.

At The Cat Welfare Group, we’ve always believed in the importance of rescues supporting one another. Sharing knowledge, experience, equipment and sometimes simply being there when another rescue needs a helping hand.

Lovelands Cat Rescue is a relatively young rescue, working incredibly hard to make a difference, and right now they have a very poorly little kitten called Buggs who desperately needs help.

When we heard about Buggs, we were only too happy to offer to lend them one of our incubators to help give this tiny girl a fighting chance.

Over the years, we’ve been fortunate enough to build up specialist equipment, experience and some wonderful relationships within the rescue community. Being able to share those resources with others is something we feel very strongly about.

Working together means we can achieve so much more for the animals who depend on us. No rescue can do everything, but by supporting each other, we can make a real difference.
