Whitehaven Sea Cadets

Whitehaven Sea Cadets This is the official public page for Whitehaven Sea Cadets. We also have a separate, closed, page for current members of the unit only.

Whitehaven Sea Cadets was established in the old Irish Street school in 1942. In 1945 we moved to our unit on Old New Quay and were christened 'Training Ship BEE'. In December 2013, Whitehaven was battered by a tidal surge driven by winds of well over 90mph. Unfortunately our building was damaged beyond repair and we had to move out. We paraded temporarily in Whitehaven Police Station before moving into our current home on Carter Lane just behind Dixons department store

πŸ† Award presentation for cadet πŸ†

Cadet 1st Class Kyla was one of two cadets chosen by our instructors as the recipients of our Willis Metherell Community Spirit award during our annual presentation earlier this year.

The award is named in memory of the former Mayor who was a supporter of the unit and recognises the cadets who are most active in supporting the community events we take part in, or otherwise go above and beyond to make a difference in their local community.

Cadet 1st Class Kyla who shares the award with Cadet 1st Class Ellie-Mae was presented with her award by our Commanding Officer this week as she was unable to attend the presentation night πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Our huge thanks to the team at Fibrus who provided us with funding to install a ship simulator πŸ™Œ

It uses maritime industry standard software to really bring our navigation, seamanship and boat work training to life in a fun and practical way for our cadets.

This was made possible through their Fibrus Community Fund Cumbria which is managed by Cumbria Community Foundation

Three of our cadets proudly represented the unit at the D-Day service in town today.

Organised by Bransty Royal British Legion, the cadets laid a wreath and joined in prayers to remember the sacrifice of all those who took part in, and supported, the landings 82 years ago today.

Volunteers week gives us chance to say a huge thank you our volunteers!

πŸŽ‰Today we celebrate our Unit Management Team trustees πŸŽ‰

While they may not be as visible as our instructional volunteers, their contribution is just as vital to the success of our unit. Working tirelessly behind the scenes, our trustees ensure that our cadets and volunteers have a safe, secure and fit-for-purpose environment for our cadets to learn, develop and thrive.

From keeping our facilities maintained and securing funds for essential equipment to overseeing the governance and future direction of the unit, their commitment helps to ensure our incredible instructors have all they need to deliver the best possible experience that our cadets deserve.

Over recent years, our trustees have worked exceptionally hard alongside the instructional team to raise the significant funds needed for the purchase and refurbishment of our amazing new unit.

Like all of our volunteers, they give their time freely because they believe in the opportunities Sea Cadets provides to young people. Their hard work often goes unseen, but its impact is felt every day.

Thank you to all of our trustees for your commitment and dedication πŸ™Œ

Volunteers week gives us a chance to say a huge thank you to our volunteers

πŸŽ‰Today we celebrate our instructional volunteers πŸŽ‰

These dedicated volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, giving their time two nights each week to deliver training, activities and opportunities that help our cadets learn, develop and grow.

What many people don't see is the countless hours they also give outside of our regular sessions whilst also balancing work and family life. They work hard to gain new qualifications and develop their own skills so they can provide even more opportunities for our cadets.

They also dedicate their time to preparing cadets for courses, events and competitions, helping them achieve their full potential.

Every one of our volunteers gives their time freely, motivated by a shared commitment to supporting young people and helping them thrive. Their enthusiasm, knowledge and dedication make a real difference to the lives of our cadets and we would be lost without them.

Thank you for everything you do πŸ™

On Saturday, we were delighted to welcome a number of our funders and supporters to our new unit for a special open day following the completion of our unit refurbishment!

This was the first time we have been able to host guests in our newly improved facilities, and it was a wonderful opportunity to show the difference their support has made. The impact of this project has given us much needed stability and will be felt for many years to come.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the refurbishment journey. While it wasn't possible to invite every individual, organisation and volunteer who has contributed along the way, please know that every donation, grant, hour of volunteering and act of support has played an important part in helping us reach this milestone.

Whitehaven Sea Cadets is stronger because of the incredible community that stands behind us, and we are grateful to each and every one of you.

Thank you for helping us create a facility that our cadets can be proud of πŸ™Œ

πŸŽ‰ Former cadet and volunteer passes out into the Royal Navy πŸŽ‰

All of us at T.S. Bee would like to congratulate former cadet and volunteer Sam Robson Lloyd on successfully completing his Royal Navy basic training at HMS Raleigh.

Sam's family joined him for a special day at his passing out parade last week and kindly sent us these photos to share.

Well done Sam, we are all proud of you and good luck on the next phase of your Royal Navy career!

πŸ“£ Whitehaven cadets and volunteer recognised with prestigious awards πŸ“£

Last night, cadets LC Blake, LC Connor and volunteer PO Amy Mitchell were presented with awards by His Majesty the King's representative for our county, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria

The ceremony took place in front of dignitaries, family and friends inside the stunning Carlisle Cathedral.

The honours they were presented with are laudatory honours and among the highest an individual can receive.

LC Blake was appointed as the Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet for 12 months for exemplifying the highest standards of the Sea Cadet Corps and setting an outstanding example to his peers.

LC Connor was presented with the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet Award for Endeavour in recognition of making the most of every opportunity to broaden his experience beyond the unit and the high standards he sets when representing the unit.

P.O. Amy Mitchell was awarded a Lord-Lieutenant's Certificate of Meritorious Service for Adults in recognition of her long term commitment and dedication to the cadets in our unit across the numerous roles that she has held

We won't ruin it for the sea cadet recipients from the other units in Lakeland District Sea Cadets as we are sure their own units will want to shout from the rooftops about their achievements but it was great to see the Sea Cadets North West Area Area Officer and Senior Staff Officer supporting the SCC recipients at the awards too.

Our congratulations also to all the other volunteers and cadets across all the services in Cumbria who received awards.

All very well deserved πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
