This month at our gallery space, The Closet in Carlisle:

ETERNAL RETURN – An exhibition of work by Grace Phyllis Silver-Smith

Grace is an oil painter working between West Cumbria and Margate. Her practice draws from her lived experience as an inters*x, transgender woman of working-class, ethnic heritage.

Through her paintings, Grace transforms a past marked by trauma, survival, s*x work, international performance, and deep healing into bold, physical works of catharsis.

Her new collection will be on display at The Closet from 30 August to 29 September 2025, alongside workshops exploring Trans hope as a radical act of resilience.

Exhibition Launch

All aboard! Our award-winning Q***r Rail Trail project with Community Rail Cumbria & Northern is BACK… and we need your art.

Last year we launched this project, platforming q***r artists across Cumbria by showcasing their work in stations on the Northern Rail network. The response was incredible — we even won at the Community Rail Awards with for Creative Communities & Station Art.
This year, we’re taking it further… and this is where YOU come in.

If you’re a q***r artist based in Cumbria, we want you to submit your work for the next stage of Q***r Rail Trail! Selected pieces will be displayed in stations across the Northern Rail network.

To submit: Send a scan (or high-quality image) of your art to emily.q***[email protected]Subject line: RAIL TRAIL SUBMISSION + your name

Deadline: 30 November 2025

We’re so excited to start the next phase of this project and can’t wait to see your submissions.
