The Speaker will be Whitehaven ramblers Vice President, Fred David Martin, who will talk about his excursion to the Knoydart Peninsular🥾🥾

The Knoydart Peninsular is on the west coast of The Scottish Highlands between Lochs Nevis and Hourn and is sometimes referred to as Britains last wilderness because of its remoteness and is also said to have the finest scenery in Scotland. The area is visited by walkers, climbers and wildlife enthusiasts.

THE CLOSURE OF MILLOM IRON WORKS.
The iron works closed in Sept 1968 after over a 100 years of iron production in Millom. The loss of the towns major employers led to economic depression and hardship and its effects are still felt today.

This Sundays Walks October 6th 9.30a.m.

A Party Skiddaw.

Start from Latrigg Car Park, Skiddaw, Sale How, Skiddaw House, Latrigg Car Park.

Distance 8.85m. Elevation 2431ft.
B Party Greendale, Middle Fell, Seatallan, Buckbarrow.
Map ref. NY 145 057 leader Ray Taylor.

Set off from Greendale and climb by Greendale Gill to Middle Fell (582m, 1909ft). Descent from Middle Fell is then to above Greendale Tarn before ascending Seatallan (692m, 2270ft). After Seatallan the route is by Cat Bields and Glade How to Buckbarrow descending then by Gill Beck to Harrow Head. The road is then followed to Greendale.
Distance approx. 9k, 5.5m.

C Party Dalegarth, Burnmoor Tarn, Eel Tarn, Woolpack Inn, River Esk.
Map ref. 173007 leader Judith Clarke.

Set off from Dalegarth and follow the road to Boot crossing Whillan Beck and following the track to Burnmoor Tarn by Eller How. At Burnmoor Tarn the track to Lambford Bridge is followed then along to Eel Tarn. From Eel Tarn the track descends to the Woolpack Inn. After the Woolpack Inn the road is followed to Doctor’s Bridge then along by the River Esk back to Dalegarth.

Distance 11k, 7m. Climbing to Ellerhow Moss 250m 820ft. Wet underfoot

C minus walk
Starting Dalegarth Ratty CP as main C group, Walk - crossing Esk via Trough Bridge then up stream to Dr Bridge and back on other side of Esk, about 4 km mostly flat.
