We are continuing to urge parents to monitor what children are looking at on their phones and online to help protect youngsters from any dangers.

Officers are reminding parents following concerns in west Cumbria in the last week about the content of a WhatsApp group in which children were members.

Officers are continuing to reviewing the content at this time but can reassure the community there was no self-harm content involved.

We are also constantly working with partners to support and educate children.

But the most important person in a child’s life is usually their parent or guardian – so we would ask parents to take the time to check children’s phones and devices to ensure children are safe.

Be intrusive around what your children are using on devices and check by researching the various apps or games to see if they are suitable for a child to have access to.

Concerns about social media groups can be reported direct to the platform owners but police are keen to learn more about any groups that may pose risks to children.

We're on the lookout for an early-career artist to develop a new walkabout act for Whitehaven Weekender 2026.

It will be an act that will engage, excite, and engross our festival audiences, and we're particularly interested in commissioning a walkabout with an emphasis on high visual impact.

This opportunity will likely be attractive to movement artists, fashion designers, sculptors, mimes, circus artists, installation artists and the like.

𝗕𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄
You don’t need to be a professional artist to take part in this opportunity!

We’re looking for 6 people who want to step in, get involved and work together to be part of one of our live performances on Saturday 29th August 2026.

Each performer will be fully costumed and made up, and will be part of rehearsals as part of before the show. No experience is required, and this will be a lovely chance to make new friends and memories.

Workington Town Council It constantly fills me with sadness that people choose to spout venom online like keyboard crusaders every time pride is mentioned.
Approx 5 percent of the entire population of this country are LGBTQ plus and it is a legal and statutory requirement for government officials to recognise and support ALL OF THEIR CONSTITUENTS!
The act of raising a flag is purely symbolic support. It doesn't fix societies polarised opinions on topics which nobody has an answer to ... It merely supports people in society who feel marginalised and have likely felt that way from when they were first bullied in the school yard.
I mean think about it who decided at the age of 11 or twelve that the gay kid needed to be punched when only a few years before that gay kid had been their best friend in primary school with no label attached.
Society focuses too much on causing division instead of trying to build communities. Why can't everyone just live and let live, life would be so much easier. I think we have much bigger problems than a flag being raised. I obviously personally applaud the council for recognising that LGBT people are constituents but I am sure that will surprise nobody, however if you take a look closely at Cumbria over the past thirty years you will see that the LGBT community have helped lead the way to create a more inclusive and cohesive society in this county. Nobody wants special treatment, people just want the same rights as others.
And No there is no straight pride and not should there ever be one because straight people are nor being beat up, bullied, attacked etc because of their sexuality... LGBTQ plus people are. Until that ends there will always be a need for pride across the globe 🌎

Happy Monday y’all!!! Well, the rains are back and so are our new opening hours. We now opening Colours Whitehaven cafe at 8.30 and and offering our new breakfast butties - sausage and bacon at £2.50 each.
