Meetings are held mostly on the 4th Wednesday of every month,
7pm-9pm at Whitby Pavilion, West Cliff, Whitby. The Women's Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation's aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK.

The WI will celebrate its centenary in 2015 and currently has 212,000 members in around 6,600 WIs. The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

All members of Whitby WI would like to wish everyone and their families a wonderful Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Whitby WI celebrated its 10 year anniversary this April and it is continuing its celebration throughout the year with a fun packed program. We would like to say a huge thank you to our retiring president Lynn for all her endless enthusiasm and hard work in creating a thriving WI post Covid. Taking us forward we would like to offer a very warm welcome to our new president Judith, who was one of the founding members of the group.

Well done North Yorkshire East Federation for organizing a fabulous Spring Council meeting. Both speakers reduced us to tears, Nicola Mills with her passionate opera singing and Rev Kate in laughter with her wonderful life stories. A super, super day was had by all, and I haven’t even mentioned the shopping!!

We had a scary and enjoyable evening for our October Halloween party night. Thanks go to Clair (Scary) Stones for telling us marvellous ghost and supernatural stories. We had a competition for best dressed which Shirly Redfern-Jones won. Thanks also for the hostesses organised by Sue and Jane. The cakes were delicious.
