Based on the novel by Maggie O’Farrell, who co-wrote the screenplay. William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal), a young Latin tutor, falls in love with the free-spirited Agnes (Jessie Buckley) and marries her despite his parents’ disapproval. In due course they have three children, but William heads to London to pursue his career as a dramatist, leaving his family in Stratford. During his absence young Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe) falls sick with the plague, and dies before his father arrives home. Later Agnes journeys to London to watch her husband’s latest play, Hamlet, and comes to realise that art can be an opportunity for healing.

Thank you to Deborah Senior from Alzheimer’s Society who hosted an information stand at the Coliseum Community Café as part of Dementia Action Week.
Members of the public, unpaid carers, people living with dementia and anyone concerned about their memory were warmly invited to attend, ask questions and access advice and guidance in a friendly, informal setting.

The Virtual Dementia Tour has been at the Rugby Club Whitby today as part of Dementia Action Week. Thanks to funding gained by Carers Plus Yorkshire in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society, this unique, hands-on experience uses specialist equipment to simulate the sensory and cognitive challenges faced by people living with dementia. Participants wear goggles, headphones and other equipment to complete everyday tasks, offering a first-hand insight into how dementia can affect perception, communication and daily life.

The session is designed to help attendees better understand
the emotional and practical impact of dementia, enabling them to provide supportive environments and strengthening community connections.
