Suffolk Community Foundation

Suffolk Community Foundation Suffolk Community Foundation awards grants to local charities and community groups, connecting donors and local causes.

Our mission is to change local lives by connecting causes that matter with people who care. Unlike traditional grantmaking trusts and foundations, we develop lasting partnerships with individuals, families, businesses, public bodies and trusts. We work together to ensure that acute areas of need in Suffolk are addressed compassionately, respectfully and sustainably. We are committed to deepening l

evels of engagement in everyone who seeks to change lives and improve futures. We are one of a national family of 46 Community Foundations in the UK. As one of the top five grantmakers in the UK, our combined power and shared passion to make a difference is increasingly influential at the most senior levels and is delivering real and meaningful change. In partnership with our many fundholders, in 2018/19 over £2.7m has been distributed via 665 grants to community groups and charities right across Suffolk.

New research from Charities Aid Foundation highlights a drop in giving in the east of England.

People in the eastern region donated 0.84% of disposable income in 2025, down on previous years. But there’s encouraging news too:

💜 58% of people in the east of England still gave to charity
💜 Nearly half (48%) see the positive impact charities have locally
💜 Over half (51%) feel a sense of local pride

The research shows a clear opportunity: when people are more connected to their communities, they’re more likely to give and get involved.

By creating more opportunities to engage and shining a light on the difference charities make, we can help build stronger communities—and grow local giving for the future.

Celebrating Suffolk’s incredible volunteers this Volunteers' Week 💜

A heartfelt thank you to every individual across Suffolk who generously gives their time, energy, and compassion to support local charities.

From lending a listening ear, to organising events, to supporting those most in need, volunteers play a vital role in improving lives and strengthening connections across our towns and villages. Because of you, people feel supported, valued, and less alone.

But volunteering doesn’t just transform the lives of others—it can also be hugely rewarding for you. It builds confidence, creates friendships, develops skills, and brings a deep sense of purpose and fulfilment.

To every volunteer making a difference—whether through a small act of kindness or a long-term commitment—thank you. Suffolk is stronger, kinder, and more connected because of you. 💜

We're delighted to announce that The Mix has received a £1,000 award through the State of the VCFSE Sector Survey from Community Action Suffolk and Suffolk Community Foundation.

The Mix, Stowmarket was chosen at random from the charities and voluntary organisations who generously gave up their time to fill in the questionnaire (thank you).

The Mix youth work charity in Stowmarket has been supporting young people since 2013 to help them feel confident, connected, and ready for their future. Through safe spaces, support in schools and communities, and real opportunities to build skills and thrive, The Mix helps young people grow, overcome challenges, and shape positive futures across Suffolk. 💜

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. It serves as a good reminder that, as well as raising awareness, real change comes about when we take action - for ourselves and for others in our communities.

In addition, we want to celebrate and thank all the incredible charities and voluntary organisations in Suffolk which work tirelessly to support those with mental health issues. 💜

Recently, Annie attended the opening of the new accessible path at Haylings Pond, Leiston. Also attending the opening was the Mayor of Leiston, colleagues at Leiston-cum-Sizewell Town Council and members of Leiston Youth and Community Angling Society (LYCAS).

The new path, part funded from Sizewell C Community Fund, now connects the car park to the pond enabling more people to access the oasis in the town and take part in social fishing sessions with LYCAS. We hope that it encourages lots of people to explore the pond and beautiful wildflower area.
