👏🌿 Huge congratulations to Nigel on receiving a 2026 Mayor’s Community Award from Weymouth Town Council (link in comments) 🏆

Nigel was recognised for his ongoing voluntary work helping keep the area around Bincombe Valley Primary School and the wider Littlemoor neighbourhood clean, tidy, and cared for; including the many community beautification projects he quietly gets on with in his own time 🌳

From maintaining pathways and green spaces, to supporting the orchard and community projects around Littlemoor, this award is thoroughly deserved. We see the hard work that goes on behind the scenes every week 👏

Very proud to have Nigel as part of Littlemoor Green Hands 🍏🌱

🌿🧽 A small but worthwhile tidy-up over the weekend.

On Saturday, I spotted graffiti on the power relay unit, which was looking pretty unpleasant and unseemly. By Sunday, our local Grounds Team lead had already been out with the graffiti remover spray and got most of it cleaned off 👏

Little jobs like this make a real difference. They help keep the area looking cared for and show that neglect does not have to become normal.

Great work as always, Nigel 👍

🌳☀️ With summer approaching and the recent dry weather continuing, attention is now turning to keeping the young fruit trees at Jan’s Orchard healthy through the warmer months 🍎💧

Yesterday, Nigel was carrying out another cut of the orchard paths and also discussing a simple temporary watering idea while we continue trying to resolve the longer-term water situation.

The current plan is to reuse 2-litre bottles filled with tap water, allowing around 16 trees to receive a litre of water each during dry spells, repeated every couple of weeks where needed 🌱

If anybody may be able to assist with a temporary watering solution — whether that’s water access, containers, bowsers, storage, advice, or simply helping out occasionally — please do get in touch. Any support or ideas would be hugely appreciated 👍

The orchard is continuing to establish well, and it’s great seeing the space develop further each season 🌿

🌿✂️ Nigel back at it on Louviers Bend!

Second cut done earlier this week and it’s looking really sharp now 👍🌱

You can really see the difference as it starts to come through properly, great quality work as always.

If you see Nigel out and about, give him a thumbs up 👋

Quick update from us too, we’ll be getting a website up and running soon (bear with us on the tech side! 💻😄)

🌸🌿 Spring has arrived at Lorton Meadows…

The blossom is out, the grass is greening up, and everything is starting to come back to life 🌱✨

A great sign that the seasons are turning, and it’s looking fantastic down here ☀️

If you’re passing through, definitely worth taking a moment to enjoy it 👍

🌿🌸 Spring is starting to show at Jan’s Orchard…

Some brilliant work from Nigel over the past few days 👏

What was looking a bit overgrown is now cut back, cleared, and shaped, the paths are defined again, the space feels open, and you can really start to see the orchard coming again into its own 🌳✨

The new bench (who put there??) is sitting proud, the grass has had its first proper cut, and everything is now ready for the season ahead 🌱

It’s these steady, consistent efforts that make all the difference, turning a space into somewhere people can actually stop, walk through, and enjoy 👍

🔧🌿 Phase 2 complete and final on the gate project

All the security bolts are now in place, and we’ve added a post to stop the gate from sliding across and causing issues, especially useful for the farmer 👍🚜

Alongside the stone we laid recently, the whole entrance is now far more solid, safer, and easier to use for everyone passing through 🚶‍♂️✨

Really pleased with how this one’s turned out, simple improvements, but a big difference on the ground.

Over the weekend and yesterday, Nigel was out getting things tidied up and ready for the season ahead 🌿💪

He’s finished off the grass around the Louviers Bend, marking the first cut of the year ✂️🌱

Usually this wouldn’t happen until early April, but with the dry weather and a couple of free days, it made sense to get started early.

Everything’s already looking much neater, and it’s a great start to the year 👏

If anyone would like to support the work, I’ve added our bank details in the comments. Every little helps keep things going 👍

🌼🌱 Signs of spring starting to show…
The daffodils we planted last autumn are now poking their heads up around the green, and it’s already making the space feel brighter 🌤️✨

It’s a small thing, but a few bulbs here and there can really lift an area, especially around paths, trees and open spaces like this 🌳

With Easter not too far off 🐣, hopefully this inspires a few others to do the same.
If you’ve got a spare patch nearby, why not plant a few this coming autumn? 🌼

📸 Take a look at the photos below, more colour on the way.

🔧🌿 Completely forgot to post this last weekend…

We finished repairing the second of the gates that used to be up at the tops. A fair bit of work went into bringing it back into shape, but it’s now solid again and ready for use 👍🪵

Some other good news too, Wessex Ground Services have now planted most of the trees and shrubs that were part of the original planning agreement with Dorset Council. Lots of new shrubs, apple trees, and other planting going in up at the top of Lodmoor Sands… which, funnily enough, is nowhere near Lodmoor and definitely has no sand 😄🌳

Let’s hope they keep them watered this time 🤞

Anyway… looks like my next job is finding another gate that needs fixing.
