Weymouth & Portland Lions Club were pleased to visit the Weymouth Town Council Council Offices this week, where President Trevor Stratton, along with Lions Ryan Hope and Kevin Brookes, presented Mayor of Weymouth - Dorset Cllr Caroline Nickinson with a £500 donation for her chosen charity Weldmar Hospicecare.
This contribution comes from a strong year of community fundraising, including the August Fireworks collections, the Christmas Santa Sleigh routes, and supermarket bucket collections.
President Trevor Stratton said he was delighted the club could offer such generous support this year. Preparations are already underway for the summer fireworks and, of course, the return of the Santa Sleigh later in the year.

Weymouth & Portland Lions Club were pleased to present an £800 grant to Chesil Sailability to help refurbish two of their oldest dinghies.
Phil and Dave joined us at our April Business Meeting to receive the cheque and share more about the fantastic work they do at the Paralympic sailing venue on Portland.
Lion President Trevor Stratton said he was especially moved when Phil told the club that “there is nothing more exhilarating than leaving your wheelchair on the dock and sailing out to sea.”
We’re proud to support a charity offering such life‑changing experiences.

A £400 grant from Weymouth & Portland Lions Club will help The Front Skatepark celebrate 25 years on 14th July.
The skatepark has been a vital space for young people to learn, grow and thrive.
Lion President Trevor Stratton and Manager Lisa Killie both praised the partnership and the positive impact it will bring.

Over 200 pairs of glasses collected at the Portland Community Action offices in Easton Square for the Lions’ recycling programme. They’ll now added to the 80 pairs collected from Sue Ryder Charity shop in Abbotsbury Road and the 400 pairs collected recently from Boots Opticians in Weymouth Town Centre. They will all be dispatched to Lions HQ in Birmingham where they are sorted, recycled or sent to eye hospitals in developing countries.

Purbeck Motocross Club ( Purbeck MXC ) held their. Presentation evening at Weymouth Golf Club last night and presented Weymouth & Portland Lions Club with a cheque for £2,200 form Weymouth Beach Motocross 2025. Vice President Adam Cole’s receiving the cheque from Mike Humphries.

Weymouth & Portland Lions Club were proud to present a £500 donation to Jo and Mark Lovett from DocBike Dorset at our recent Business Meeting.
DocBike is an incredible charity that pairs a consultant‑level doctor or critical care paramedic with a motorcycle, helping reduce deaths and serious injuries caused by motorcycle collisions. Their clinicians also work on the local air ambulance, treating the most severely injured patients and giving them the best possible chance of reaching hospital alive.
We’re delighted to support the vital work they do across Dorset.

Important update – Lions Christmas Day Harbour Swim 2025

All registered swimmers were emailed on Monday 05/01/2026 with details of how to claim a partial refund of £10 per registered swimmer, should they wish to receive one.

The Christmas Day Harbour Swim was a charity fundraiser, organised entirely by Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, with all proceeds intended to support local good causes. Unfortunately, after the first race, the event had to be cancelled due to safety concerns arising from the water conditions.

Although the event could not proceed as planned, a number of essential costs had already been incurred, including water safety provision, equipment, and event logistics. As a volunteer-run charity, we are unable to absorb these costs in full.

For this reason, we are able to offer a partial refund of £10 per swimmer to those who wish to request one.
