*Mindsets * Nutrition * Movement * Lifestyles The Children's Health Project endeavours to help children thrive, rather than survive in our modern world. We encourage children to have greater respect for their bodies, have the knowledge and confidence to make sustainable healthy choi

ces, and have a true understanding of why it is important to be healthy. To support children on their health journeys, we aim to make a sustainable change in health education, with an emphasis on high quality teaching, and real life support for parents and families.

Such an amazing start to our family wellbeing clinics this week - feel very lucky I get to do this work. It felt right - like this is exactly what schools AND families need some extra support with. Thank you to our member schools that promoted it to their parents, I think the sign ups prove that it was appreciated.

💤 We covered topics of sleep stages and what “normal” sleep looks like and common issues we see in primary aged children’s sleep (parasomnias - nightmares, sleep walking, sleep talking, night terrors and then also the struggle to fall asleep/early wakes/resettling)

😴 We then looked at things parents can do to support their child’s sleep, through the lens of our 4 Pillars of wellbeing - Nurturing Mindsets; Nourished Eating; Mindful Movement and Balanced Lifestyles.

⭐️ Well-being clinics have become part of our Post Covid Growth Programme. We’ll run 3 each half term for parents from our member schools, on the topics of sleep, mindfulness and nutrition.

⏰ We scheduled two sessions - one in the morning and one in the evening, and both had the same number of sign ups 🙌 so hopefully it reached everyone that wanted to attend. Recordings have been sent out to everyone that signed up.

So delighted that we’re able to make this part of our membership for schools now. Can’t wait for the mindfulness clinic in November!

A very short version of our organisation’s story and where we’re heading. So pleased we still have so many member schools signing up again and again as we journey through together.

The beauty of our online CHP Academy is that we can be flexible and pivot like we have over the years. It means we stay relevant, supportive and trusted by our schools. And cope with major changes, like the ones brought on in 2020!

Lots of exciting shifts happening in the CHP - not grand ones - the online Academy is working so well for us now - just tweaks that make it easier and better for our schools’ to access training, resources and support.

Get in touch if you’re interested in joining us. Our website will be updated soon with new details.

Also - SO frustrating when you check and check again for spelling mistakes 🙈…ah well - life’s too short to go back in and change it!

The light and the air feel just a little different when you know the summer holidays are fast approaching I think. I’m looking forward to being back in Cornwall this summer and spending most of my time outdoors. There’s something about being on the coast - I like to know where the “edge” of the land is - I guess to feel my place 🤷‍♀️ and the sea/tides seem to ground and soothe me. Rain or shine I’m always happy at the beach or in amongst trees - and I think most of our pupils are too. The challenge for me, especially with a young daughter now, is to grab moments to be mindful rather than getting drawn into busyness. Ha, we’ll see how that pans out! But I’ll be relying on my breath and a simple body scan to help me when I need it. You can ask your pupils (or yourself!) to notice 3 sights, 2 sounds and 1 sense of touch in these moments as a quick mindful activity to notice where you are at that present moment.

Anyone else feel they “belong” near the coast?! 🤔🌊

When someone on our Health Ambassador programme states they want their school to "live and breathe the Children's Health Project", I know we're on the right path. Can't wait to see how the wellbeing programme and development of subject leaders develops in this, one of our newer schools!

I spent much of yesterday watching and editing our webinar with Nicki Bass from Resilience at Work and the Everyday Adventure Podcast, for the schools in the CHP. It took me a while as I was making notes on all the insights Nicki shared, and so many ideas for schools - daily practices, assembly content, daily reflections, how we work with parents, residential trips...a few key reflections for me:

🌀Resilience should be something we practise everyday - in the classroom, but especially outdoors - and maybe through the CHP four pillars of movement, nutrition, lifestyle and mindset

🌀Emotional Literacy sits at the heart of resilience - getting to know your comfort zones and expanding them gently, then understanding and managing your emotions when you're feeling challenged and you need to adapt in some new way

🌀Children knowing and understanding their comfort zones & resilience are expanding, even when learning in the classroom - then applying this further down the road - eg on a residential trip, on the high ropes for example

🌀Teachers don't need to be resilient in order to facilitate learning about resilience...they could communicate their own journey of building resilience to really support

The webinar will be in the CHP Academy - evergreen CPD 🙂

Huge thanks to Nicki!
