Projects include developing and supporting schools, supporting very poor families and HIV positive adults and children, and orphan sponsorship. The project was set up in 1999 by the late Martyn Hastings MBE (UK) and the late Joseph Timothy Komenjoe (Kenya) to work with the Murugi Community in Kenya, to improve the lives of the very needy. Initially the intention was just to provide an affordable health centre for local people, but over the years the links between Dorset and Murugi have strengthened. Now, by working together, many more projects have been undertaken. We built the Baragu Health Centre from scratch over 20 years (including a child unit, maternity unit, full dental surgery, minor procedures unit, kitchen and a HIV/TB clinic). We support the HIV positive children and adults group by supplying food and funding support groups. We support over 250 sponsored orphans and needy children with feeding, school fees and health care. We have repaired and renovated classrooms, installed electricity, as well as built new classrooms where required. We organise links between UK and Kenyan schools with many teachers and other volunteers visiting their link school over the years. Improved general living conditions of very poor families
