The Cancer Club is a charity founded in 2020 by me, Matthew Wiltshire. When I was diagnosed with bowel cancer back in 2015, my world turned upside down. Suddenly there was a whole new universe to make sense of and navigate. There was the fear of treatment, the fear of my prognosis, and the overwhelming fear that I wouldn’t be around to look after my family as long as I’d planned. One thing was cer

tain, I felt lonely and isolated. However sympathetic and understanding my friends and family tried to be, there was a gulf between their experience of this situation and mine. It is my hope that the work of The Cancer Club will help people in a similar position to me achieve a greater sense of wellbeing, as well as creating a cause for good that will continue long after I’m gone.

⚽ TCC Members Steve and Barry recently headed to the FA Cup Semi Final between Manchester City and Southampton—with access to hospitality in the FA Lounge, courtesy of our friends at Pitch International.

Although the result wasn’t quite what they hoped for, a fantastic day was had by all.

Days like this provide a chance to switch off, enjoy great company, and make lasting memories together.

Most of us would probably say:
“You’re not alone.”
“Talk to people.”
“Take it one day at a time.”

A massive thank you to Jamie Clohesey, along with his mates Mark and Adam, who ran the Brighton Marathon back in April in support of The Cancer Club.

Together, they raised an incredible £2,300 for the club.

🌟 Cancer Survivors Day – Keith's Journey 🌟

My world changed on 29th September 2020.

What started as feeling unwell and having constant hiccups led to an emergency hospital admission during Covid, major surgery, and the devastating news that I had bowel cancer.

After surgery, further scans showed the cancer had spread to my lymphatic system and that more surgery wasn’t an option. Then in January 2021, I was told I’d likely only have around two years to live.
Hearing those words was incredibly tough.
But I kept fighting.

Over the following years, I went through chemotherapy, additional immunotherapy treatment (a drug called Bevacizumab (Avastin), and more ups and downs than I can count. I’ll always be grateful to the 176 people who helped fund my treatment through a GoFundMe page—without their support, I genuinely might not be here today.

Then on 25th March 2026, everything changed.

On my 63rd birthday, my oncologist told me my latest scan showed NED — No Evidence of Disease — and that I was officially in remission ❤️

There are so many people I need to thank for helping me reach this point.

My wife and family supported me through every dark moment. My medical team guided me with incredible care and expertise. Maggie’s gave me support when I needed it most. Singing with the Romsey Male Voice Choir helped more than I can explain.

And then there’s The Cancer Club.

I originally found the club online while searching for support for men with cancer. Through the WhatsApp groups, sporting events, and friendships I made, I realised how important it is for men going through cancer to have each other.

Following the sad passing of founder Matt Wiltshire in 2023, I decided to help continue his incredible work by taking on the day-to-day running of the club. Today, we support more than 130 men with cancer across the UK—and I’m incredibly proud of that.

My journey has been tough, but it’s also shown me the power of support, friendship, and hope.

This Cancer Survivors Day, I want anyone going through cancer to know this:
There is support out there. There is hope. And you do not have to face it alone.

But the truth is - you’re allowed to have bad days.

You’re allowed to feel scared, frustrated, exhausted, or overwhelmed.

At The Cancer Club, there’s no pressure to put on a brave face. Just honest conversations with men who understand what you’re going through.

A brilliant atmosphere, plenty of laughs, and another reminder that The Cancer Club is about more than just cancer. It’s about friendship, shared experiences, and making memories together.
