The Cancer Club

The Cancer Club The Cancer Club is all about bringing men with cancer together and to get men talking! https://thecancerclub.co.uk/

The Cancer Club is a charity founded in 2020 by me, Matthew Wiltshire. When I was diagnosed with bowel cancer back in 2015, my world turned upside down. Suddenly there was a whole new universe to make sense of and navigate. There was the fear of treatment, the fear of my prognosis, and the overwhelming fear that I wouldn’t be around to look after my family as long as I’d planned. One thing was cer

tain, I felt lonely and isolated. However sympathetic and understanding my friends and family tried to be, there was a gulf between their experience of this situation and mine. It is my hope that the work of The Cancer Club will help people in a similar position to me achieve a greater sense of wellbeing, as well as creating a cause for good that will continue long after I’m gone.

Bank holidays can be a mixed bag.

For some, it’s a welcome break. For others, it can feel a bit isolating.

However you’re feeling today, just know - there’s always someone to talk to in The Cancer Club.

Toni and Gordon (Cancer Club members) each took a guest along to the game - enjoying an incredible day that included hospitality in the FA Lounge, all courtesy of our good friends at Pitch International.

A brilliant experience, great company, and another reminder of what this club is all about - bringing people together and creating special moments.

A huge thank you to Pitch International for making it possible.

We’ve got some brilliant news to share!

The Cancer Club has been awarded £1,000 from the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards - thanks to nominations from the public.

This funding will help us continue doing what matters most—providing support, creating a safe space for men with cancer to talk, and offering moments of relief through events and shared experiences.

It’s support like this that allows us to keep growing the community and reaching more men who need it.

A huge thank you to everyone who nominated us - and to Benefact Group Movement for Good for recognising the work we do.

If you or someone you know could benefit from being part of the club, we’re here:

Kevin’s Story

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma skin cancer a few months before I discovered The Cancer Club. From the outset, I was told it was incurable and life limiting.

Hearing those words changes everything.

At the time, my mental health wasn’t in a great place. I felt isolated, trying to come to terms with a diagnosis that left me feeling like I didn’t know anyone else facing the same battle.

I came across a post about a club for men with Stage 4 cancer—a space to support each other.

I didn’t hesitate.

Five years on, The Cancer Club has become a lifeline. The WhatsApp community allows you to speak openly without filtering your words.

We’ve shared experiences, supported each other, and created memories—including raising over £8,000 at a cycling event in Glasgow.

Being part of the club hasn’t changed my diagnosis—but it has changed how I deal with it.

If I could give one piece of advice: join the club.

And please - take care in the sun. Protect your skin. Skin cancer can often be avoided.
