THE BARBARA CARTLAND OF HENLEAZE?
Over a decade ago, Veronica Bowerman was researching the publications of a resident of Henleaze, Margery Harrison - pen name Margaret Harrison - see below:
The 1911 census shows the Harrison family living at 32 Downs Park East. Alfred William Harrison, the father, was head of a successful rope and sack-making business in Bristol. One of his daughters was Margery, born in 1898. She never married and, for a while, entered a nunnery (she was a devout Catholic all her life). She later lived at 19 Henleaze Gardens until 1967 when she moved to a small house down in Westbury-on-Trym.
Thanks to assistance from the Central Library's Reference Department, Margery published under the name of Margaret Harrison and wrote 15 romantic novels that were published between 1946 and 1961.
Veronica has now retired from writing about the history of Henleaze, but she has these three books written in the early 1950s by Margaret Harrison that she would like to pass on to someone in Henleaze free of charge.. All three books are approximately 200 pages in length. Please comment if you want more details.
