It’s with huge sadness that we need to inform you that the community Scrapstore will be shutting its doors for good in July. As with many other community organisations, our costs have continued to rise, funding is harder and harder to find and so, sad as it is, we’ve decided, it’s time to call it a day.
We know this may come as a shock to many of you and we hope you, especially those that have visited recently, understand why we’ve been unable to share this until now- partly as we were still hopeful to find a solution. It is however, just not achievable.
It has been an absolute honour to serve our community here in North Somerset for almost 13 years and many of you have become not just customers but friends over the years.
We have loved watching families grow, events established and groups formed, we’ve loved seeking resources to support you and the variety of activities we’ve been able to support has inspired us to carry on year after year. It’s been an absolute pleasure to see our community committed to increase its reuse and inspire new generations to think creatively when planning their offerings.
We’ve been proud to represent North Somerset when attending multi store swaps and we’ve ensured resources from our area have been utilised rather than wasted and prevented many many hundreds of tonnes of materials over the years from ending up in landfill when they really had so much use.
We’ve been honoured to have had the support of the Quartet community foundation and specifically the North Somerset community partnership fund for many years and it’s only with their support we had been able to grow as we did.
Our trustees have worked hard over the years to keep us going and their guidance and support has made our journey possible.
The most Huge credit must go to the incredible group of volunteers who have literally dedicated hundreds and hundreds of hours every year to ensure we are open week in and week out and without their continued commitment and friendly, helpful and joyous personalities we simply wouldn’t have existed at all. Their hardwork will never be forgotten.
I (Laura Jones) will certainly miss the community our store has created around it over the years and I sincerely hope we find a way to keep in touch, even when we don’t yet know what the future holds. I’m sure I’ll see many of you at future community events as that’s where my heart feels at home. I think my Spike ( the dog) espiecially will find the adjustment hard, he loves seeing everyone and making himself heard. The store has become his life too and I think he may insist I still take him to visit at least the neighbours regularly - he’s got his own dog bowl in there after all;)
In all honesty the store and the charity has been a huge part of my life for a very long time and I will miss it dearly- I think we may all ( staff and members ) have our own favourite memories of things we have collected or activities that we’ve supported, ideas that have been shared or best things ever created. It’s been a total joy.
While it feels quite emotional to be writing this post right now, we hope you still want to support us and come and gather any resources you may need, we don’t have an absolute end date yet but we would encourage you to come in quickly even if your planned activity is some time away, we obviously want to do all we can to find all our resources a use before it’s too late, we will be contacting other Scrapstores to help mop up the left overs in the coming weeks but in the meantime we are opening the store up to everyone- no membership required, so please do share and come and visit us very very soon! Usual donation applies- we still have bills to pay;) The few workshops we have booked in at the beginning of July will go ahead as planned.
This won’t be the last you hear from me (Laura) but it’s with massive thanks I write this post, I’ve loved every moment of the last 13 years!!!❤️❤️❤️
