We went up to Wood Lane Quarry this morning to do a bit of prep for a holiday club visiting us on Friday. We hadn’t been to the site for a few weeks and expected there to be some over grown areas but it was the opposite! The drought is really taking its toll on our little piece of paradise.
The path up into the woods is so dry and there are crunchy leaves all around. In the quarry itself everything is either very droopy or brown and shrivelled.
We made the decision weeks ago that we would not have fires until a reasonable amount if rain fell, and now we are also thinking about how we can protect the habitat for the wildlife that live there.
This is the story all over the country and with small grass fires turning into wildfires in the blink of an eye, it’s a reminder of how dry everything has become. So, if you are enjoying the outdoors, please do so responsibly. Do not light fires, BBQ’s or make sparks, and pick up discarded rubbish that could start a fire.
Hopefully there is rain coming next week to give some relief to our wildlife and green spaces 🤞🤞🤞
