Naloxone saves lives.

Naloxone is a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose and prevent death. However, right now it can only be provided by Drug and Alcohol Services and Pharmacies. This means many people who are most at risk — including those not engaged with treatment services — can’t easily access it.

A Naloxone Consultation is currently under review. This is an important opportunity to call for wider access so naloxone can reach people when and where it’s needed most.

Everyone deserves the chance to survive an overdose. Expanding access to naloxone saves lives.

This consultation seeks views on proposals to make further legislative changes to expand access to take-home naloxone supplies and naloxone for emergency use.

Wow, what a year it’s been! 😅 We’ve been busier than ever, and we couldn’t have done it without all of your support. From joining the Armed Forces Covenant to providing SWEP accommodation for the third winter, and supporting more people than ever before, it’s been non-stop—and we’ve loved every minute of it.

Whilst we are proud to be able to continue developing our service and supporting as many people as we do year on year, this also reflects the difficulties in the current climate that lead people to need our help. Your support makes it possible for us to be there when it matters most. 💛

A huge thank you to everyone who has cheered us on, worked with us, or sent us kind words along the way. Your encouragement truly means the world, and it’s what keeps us going.

Here’s to another busy, exciting, and successful year ahead—let’s make it even better than the last! 🥂

It’s 2026 and we are seeking some new trustees to join the board of our charity and help us on our journey.

We are really keen to a find someone with buildings and maintenance experience who can help staff with repairs and building projects by offering an experienced hand with overseeing quotes and ideas.

All of our trustees are voluntary and this role may suit a retired builder or tradesperson. We also would welcome interest from people still working in a trade but please note that due to the obvious conflict of interest, your business or any business associated with you or your family would be unable to tender for works that were carried out.

We are also keen to fill other trustee positions with overview of long term planning and fundraising, so if this might be you get in touch!

If you are interested in an informal chat about the role and what it will entail please email our Chair, Dan Heley at; [email protected]

❄️ As winter approaches, many of you ask us whether we provide tents to people who are rough sleeping, or if we can accept tent donations. The short answer is no—but the reasons are more complex.

Tents may seem like a solution, offering privacy and protection from the elements, but they also come with serious safety, legal, and health risks. From increased vulnerability to assault, legal penalties under Public Space Protection Orders, to public health and environmental concerns, the reality is that tents can often create more danger than safety.

At Somewhere to Go, our priority is keeping people safe and supporting them into sustainable housing. We never judge personal decisions, but we aim to provide the information and guidance needed to make informed choices while sleeping rough.

📖 Read our full article to understand why tents aren’t the solution we might hope for, and what we do to support people experiencing homelessness this winter.

We are frequently asked whether we provide tents to individuals who are homeless and sleeping on the streets, or whether we can accept donations of tents for this purpose. The short answer is no.

Homelessness is not an isolated issue – it’s deeply connected to wider social, economic, and health inequalities.

At Somewhere to Go, we understand that truly tackling homelessness means addressing the root causes, not just the visible symptoms.

Every person who comes through our doors is facing a unique combination of challenges. By looking at the bigger picture and offering support that meets those wider needs, we can help individuals move beyond crisis and towards lasting stability, dignity, and inclusion.

Together, we can make a real difference. ❤️

We urgently need food donations. Our shelves are getting low, and with more people reaching out for support, every item really does make a difference.

If you’re able to help, we’re especially in need of essentials such as:
• Tinned meals (soup, curry, chilli, pasta dishes)
• Tinned fruit and vegetables
• Pasta, rice, noodles
• Cereal and porridge
• Long-life milk and juice
• Tea, coffee, sugar
• Biscuits and snack bars
• Toiletries and household essentials

Even picking up one or two extra items on your weekly shop can help someone in our community who is struggling. Thank you so much for your kindness and support. ❤️

SWEP Extended – Supporting Our Community Through Severe Weather

We would like to inform our community that Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP) has been extended for a further night, covering 21 November 2025 and continuing until the morning of 22 November 2025. This extension ensures that anyone sleeping rough has access to a safe, warm place during the ongoing severe weather conditions.

So far during this SWEP activation:

13 individuals have been offered placements at Somewhere to Go

11 people have attended and made use of their placements

1 external placement has been arranged for someone requiring alternative accommodation

We are grateful to the dedicated staff and partner organisations who are working to ensure people have a secure space indoors. As always, we encourage members of the public to continue sharing any concerns about individuals who may be rough sleeping via The StreetLink so help can be offered as quickly as possible.

Together, we can help keep people safe during periods of extreme weather. If you have any questions about SWEP or how to support local services, please feel free to get in touch.

❄️Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) Activation - Winter 2025 ❄️
As temperatures begin to drop. It’s that time of year again when additional measures are put in place to help protect people who are rough sleeping in dangerous weather conditions. We can confirm that the first SWEP activation of the inter season is provisionally scheduled from 20:00 on Tuesday 18 November 2025 to 08:00 on Friday 20 November 2025. These date will continued to be reviewed as the weather forecast develops, we will share updates if anything changes.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll also be publishing more detailed information about how SWEP operates, what triggers and activation and how the community can support people experiencing homelessness during severe weather. For now, here are the key points to remember from our perspective:
1️⃣ If you are concerned about anyone sleeping rough, please report this to the Local Authority and the Outreach Team via The StreetLink. This is the most effective way to ensure that trained professionals can locate the individual, check on their wellbeing, and offer appropriate support.
2️⃣ We cannot accept self-referrals for SWEP accommodation. All placements must come through North Somerset Council or the YMCA Homeless Outreach Team. This helps ensure the support is coordinated, fair, and based on verified need.
3️⃣ It is important to recognise that not everyone who is rough sleeping will accept SWEP accommodation. People have the right to make informed choices about where they sleep, even in cold weather. There are many reasons someone may decline - past experiences, anxiety, safety concerns, comfort in the outdoors, or preference for their own space. We respect these decisions while continuing to offer support wherever possible.
4️⃣ If you are interested in volunteering with us, especially during the busy winter season, we would love to hear from you. Please email [email protected] for more information about opportunities to get involved.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our work and looks out for others in our community. Winter can be a difficult and dangerous time for those without a safe place to stay, and your awareness, compassion, and action can make a real difference. Together, we can help ensure that no one faces the cold alone.
