Many of the children are South Sudanese and have lost their parents in the civil war in South Sudan that started in 2017

The Smile Children's Village and Training Academy in Uganda has a few items on their 2026 shopping list and they have asked us here in the UK to help. So here we go!

Item 1: 25 sewing machines for the students on the tailoring course to use. £77 will pay for one manual sewing machine and stand and equip one young person to learn a skill and earn a living. https://www.stewardship.org.uk/pages/SmileVillageSewingMachines

Item 2: A maize mill to grind the corn grown on their 7 acre plot to make flour for baking and feeding the 400 hungry children every day. £1,500 will cover this. https://www.stewardship.org.uk/pages/SmileVillageMaizeMill

Item 3: A charcoal fired oven in which to cook meals for the orphanage and school. This will be a vast improvement over an open fire they currently cook on. £1,150 will see this item purchased and installed.

Item 4: A replacement car for the driving and mechanics students. Cars don't last very long on Uganda's roads, and a replacement costing £3,800 is needed urgently to equip these young people with essential skills.

We are so happy to share with that 6 of our sponsored children have moved up to secondary school.
This is a milestone for our charity and Smile school.
These are the first children to go on to secondary school, not just the first sponsored children.
Congratulations to the children and thank you to our sponsors. Without you, this is not possible. Truly, you are changing the lives of these children. You cannot overstate the impact you are making to the lives of these children.

Celebrate with us the completion of the building of the girls' dormitory.
90 girls now each have their own mattress instead of 3 per mattress.
Started in April 2025 and finished in October 2025 - we think that is fantastic.

We have our first orphan sponsored for university!
This marks a massive achievement for us as a new charity. We have agreed the funding for one of our orphans for a 3 year university course.
Andrew will then go into teaching of biololgy and chemistry. We are delighted to support him in his dream to become a teacher. This sponsorship is a wonderful gift that will keep on giving to future generations of children, giving more children hope to move themselves and their families out of poverty
