✨ Inspiring first Youth Shadow Board meeting! ✨

The Youth Shadow Board held its first meeting tonight at the West Leeds Activity Centre – and it was amazing!

The first half focused on introducing Pride in Place Programme and what we’re hoping to achieve together. We then had some powerful discussions, including whether adults always get it right for young people. One comment really stood out to us.

“Adults don’t always get it right for young people, because they’re not young people.”

Simple, honest, and incredibly powerful.

We used this to highlight that young people are experts in their own experiences and their voice helps make services, communities and decisions better.

We also explored what the youth shadow board feel is missing or needs improving in our area, grouping their ideas into themes and narrowing them down to three key priorities.

This demonstrated how we go about listening to people in our community to find out what their priorities are. We highlighted that in the upcoming sessions we’ll work out how to do this on a bigger scale.

The confidence, insight, and maturity shown by everyone involved was amazing.

And to finish? An hour or so on the climbing wall – lots of energy and fun with some of them doing it blindfolded!

A brilliant start – excited to see where this goes.

Thank you to Stephen and Denise at the Youth Service for facilitating, St Bart’s for the use of the minibus, the two Academies for their support selecting students and Tony and Ellie at WLAC for the climbing wall. 😊

Our First Youth Shadow Board Meeting is tomorrow! 🎉

Created to ensure young people’s voices are heard and valued in local decision-making through the Pride in Place Programme, our Youth Shadow Board is officially underway!

Sixteen young people aged 11–17 have come together to form this exciting new group, bringing fresh ideas, insight, and the experiences of young people to the table.

We’re proud to be working in partnership with Leeds Youth Service WNW to create a space where young people can play a central role in leading the programme.

By the time this funding comes to an end, these young people will be aged 21–27—making their contributions today even more important for the future they’ll help to shape.

And this is not all work and no play! Each board meeting will be hosted by different youth organisations, like West Leeds Activity Centre,CATCH, Leeds or Herd Farm Residential & Activity Centre - and will include a fun activity alongside important discussions!

Good luck to everyone involved – we can’t wait to see where this journey leads 💬✨

From LS12 to Westminster!

Our Chair Jo took a little trip to the House of Commons earlier this week for an event for the Chairs of Pride in Place Neighbourhood Boards across the country - and it was brilliant.

The speakers were great and provided lots of information about what worked - and didn’t work - for them for her to take away and share with the Board.

This Pride in Place funding is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our area and will make such a difference. The whole Board really want to get this right for our community and opportunities like this to learn from others on how we can approach it all is so important.

Thank you to Mark Sewards MP and to Guy Dumas for the invite and accompanying Jo.

✨ Pride in Place – Join the Conversation! ✨

Our golden postbox has been on the move today from Dixons Unity Academy to the Farnley Academy!

Thank you to the wonderful Dixons Unity Community for your input!

Farnley - it’s your turn!

We’re asking what you’d like our community to be like in 10 years and what would make things better, nicer and safer. 💌

This is all part of our Pride in Place Programme, supported by a £20 million investment over the next 10 years to build stronger communities, create thriving places and empower people to take control!

We are listening to people of all ages in our community, celebrating what makes our area special and gathering ideas for what we can do to make lasting improvements.

The community know what we need to change for the better so now’s the time to use our voice.

👀 Keep an eye out for out for opportunities for you to get involved and have your say.
