💛 Loneliness Awareness Week reminds us that loneliness is a normal human experience that can affect anyone, at any stage of life.

Often, the most powerful thing we can do is start a conversation, check in with someone, or take a small step towards connection. A simple "How are you, really?" can make a meaningful difference.

At CAPITAL, we know that connection, community, and support play a vital role in wellbeing.

Through our peer support groups, community activities, volunteering opportunities, and member network, we work to create spaces where people feel heard, valued, and connected.

This week, let's challenge the stigma around loneliness and remember that reaching out – whether to offer support or ask for it – is a sign of strength.

💬 Who could you check in with today?

The Sussex-wide How Are You Really Feeling? campaign encourages us to check in with ourselves and each other, helping to normalise conversations about mental wellbeing and making it easier to find support when it’s needed.

The campaign was co-produced with our West Sussex Lived Experience Advisory Group (WSX LEAG) as well as NHS services, local authorities and other community organisations across Sussex.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, lonely, or just not quite yourself, support is available. Taking that first step to reach out can make all the difference. Because sometimes the answer to “How are you?” isn’t “fine”.

💚 Take a moment today to ask yourself – and someone you care about: "How are you really feeling?"

June 15th - 21st is Men's Health Week!

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health.

Many men experience stress, anxiety, loneliness, low mood, or difficult life challenges, but reaching out for support can often feel like the hardest step. This Men's Health Month, we're encouraging men across West Sussex to prioritise their wellbeing and remember that they don't have to face things alone.

Our FREE peer-led Online Men's Group offers a relaxed, supportive space to connect with others, share experiences, and have honest conversations without judgement.

✅ Open to men aged 18+ starting Monday 1st June 2-4PM, then every other Monday for 6 weeks
✅ Online via Zoom
✅ No referral or diagnosis needed
✅ Friendly, welcoming and confidential

Whether you're looking to talk, listen, or simply connect with others who understand, you're welcome to join us.

Volunteering can be a powerful part of mental health recovery.

Using your lived experience to support others not only creates change within the community - it can also nurture confidence, connection, purpose, and wellbeing within yourself.

Our CAPITAL volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Especially following significant funding cuts, volunteers have become even more vital than ever in helping us continue delivering peer-led support, community projects, events, and lived experience insight across Sussex.

We know kindness towards others can also be healing towards yourself.
There are many ways to get involved, including through our unique Patient Viewpoint service — an independent project where volunteers visit inpatient mental health wards to listen to patients, gather feedback, and help improve services and care for others accessing support.

Whether through Patient Viewpoint, facilitating our community groups, events or wider involvement opportunities, volunteering with CAPITAL means becoming part of a community that believes lived experience matters and that every voice deserves to be heard.
We would love to welcome more volunteers to our community.

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Tabitha's Story🌟

As part of Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the amazing volunteers who help make CAPITAL the supportive community it is today.

Tabitha has been a member of CAPITAL for almost 10 years. She describes herself as once being "the quiet one in the corner keeping my head down, barely speaking to anyone" but says she always felt safe within the group.

After volunteering at CAPITAL's first Chichester Pride stall in 2023, she discovered a passion for supporting others and soon began helping to run our Bognor art groups. Today, she facilitates weekly groups, volunteers at community events across West Sussex, supports Patient Viewpoint work and helps train new volunteers!

Reflecting on her volunteering journey, Tabitha says:

💙 "I love what I do with CAPITAL. I have grown so much with them and have made many close friends."

And for anyone considering volunteering:

💙 "When you find the right place, it's amazing and truly life changing!"

Thank you, Tabitha, for your dedication, leadership and the countless hours you give to supporting others. We are incredibly grateful to have you as part of the CAPITAL family.
