Round of Applause for Leading Cadet Amelia Haydon! Last month Amelia won the St John Ambulance Regional Cadet of the Year Competition, another title , alongside her newly appointed Lord Lieutenant Cadet Role, highlighting Amelia’s commitment to helping others.

As a role model to other young people, it is incredible to know that Amelia was encouraged to start her journey by some very important women in her life . “I first heard about St John Ambulance from my mum, who was a cadet when she was younger. My cousin joined before me and told me all about learning at unit and the amazing events she went to. I asked if I could go along one evening and never looked back!”

Since joining, Amelia has completed her first aid training, leadership courses and progressed through the ranks to become a Leading Cadet. She has supported a range of community events, from Remembrance Day parades to first aid cover at judo competitions being among her favourites.

Outside of St John, Amelia is equally driven, achieving Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and is currently working towards Gold. She is passionate about rock climbing, music and art, whilst also balancing school and St John life.

Getting to this point wasn’t easy- years of hard work, dedication and pushing the comfort zones has led to this achievement. First, Amelia was selected as CCotY and LLC, leading her to the National Cadet of the Year competition.

“The NCOTY competition has been the highlight of my cadet career; I have already met so many amazing people whom I never would’ve had the opportunity to if I hadn’t won CCOTY. It was so much fun, and I am so grateful I get to go again next year to see other young people enjoying their own competition experience, making friends and memories for life” .

After a challenging weekend of assessments, presentations, teamwork tasks and interviews, Amelia was proudly awarded the title of Regional Cadet of the Year. Reflecting on her achievement, Amelia shared . “Being able to represent people from my area and take part in such important events is the greatest achievement of my life. It’s a big responsibility, but it will be completely worth it”

One of St John Ambulance's High Sheriff Cadet for 2026/27.

I'm Ashar, and I'm 15.

I joined St John Ambulance as a Cadet in 2021 because I wanted to be part of an organisation that helped people.

What I didn't realise was just how much I would learn, and how many amazing people I would meet along the way.

I've loved volunteering at events such as festivals and sports matches, putting my first aid skills into practice.

In this upcoming year as a High Sheriff Cadet, I am looking forward to working alongside like-minded young people from different uniformed organisations as we all join to support the High Sheriff in her duties and reach out to make a lasting difference in communities across our region.

Congratulations to Ashar for gaining the role and we wish him all the best!

⚓ Leaders don’t need to be the loudest in the room... Introducing Royal Marine Cael. A calm, and grounded voice who recently joined our youth council team.

Cael is applying to join the Youth Council because he doesn’t just want to speak for himself ; he wants to stand up for the young people who often feel unheard, overlooked, or underestimated.
What sets Cael apart is his approach to leadership.
For him, it isn’t about rank, recognition, or being the loudest voice in the room.

It’s about responsibility ; showing up when it matters, supporting others, and being someone people know they can rely on.
💬 “Leadership isn’t just speaking up or doing what I’m asked. Leadership is about going the extra mile, listening to the people around me, and representing views that aren’t always my own.”
Whether helping others during promotion boards, supporting his peers through challenges, or standing up for what’s right even when it’s difficult, Cael leads with empathy, integrity, and fairness.

He is passionate about:
✨ giving space to quieter voices
✨ lifting others up alongside his own success
✨ building confidence, morale, and belonging within his unit
Cael isn’t just a leader; he is a listener, a role model, and an advocate for doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching.

Let’s congratulate Cael as he brings his calm strength and authentic leadership to the Youth Council 💙⚓

🪂 Jumping out of 2025 !  Congratulations Corporal Sheridan!
Jump complete — 14,000ft a brave jump for a cause close to Daniels Heart.

“I still can’t believe I celebrated my 16th birthday falling through the sky over Nottingham. This skydive wasn’t just for the thrill .  It was to give back to two organisations that have shaped my journey: the RAF Benevolent Fund, who support those who’ve served our country and their families , as well as 479 (Rubery) Squadron, where my RAF dream began.”

The jump was an incredible milestone in Daniel’s cadet journey ; a perfect mix of courage, adventure, and commitment to causes he deeply believes in. He shared that the experience was both “The experience was both thrilling and exciting. “

Reflecting on his time with the Air Cadets, Daniel said the past three years have given him skills and confidence he never expected. From flying and gliding lessons to leadership training and camps across the country, he’s gained experiences that have shaped his outlook and strengthened his determination to pursue a career in the RAF.

Daniel’s fundraiser has already exceeded his original expectations, raising nearly £1.7k to support both the RAF Benevolent Fund’s vital work and his squadron’s ongoing training and opportunities for new cadets.

He expressed immense gratitude to everyone who donated and supported his efforts, saying that giving back to both organisations felt like the perfect way to mark this special birthday.

Daniel’s determination, generosity, and spirit truly embody what it means to be an Air Cadet always striving to serve, lead, and inspire.
