Huge thanks to all who came to the information evening on data centres last night. A busy and friendly discussion followed presentations from Say No to West Calder Hyperscale Data Centre and Action to Protect Rural Scotland. Both groups have worked extremely hard to fact find on many questions of what proposed centres could mean for those living nearby. Answers to these questions are needed so that they are not missing from guidance currently being prepared.

While WLCAN is not a direct campaigning organisation, we can connect people with groups. We want local people to feel informed and involved in issues that matter to them. We did invite Apatura and West Lothian Council to the event and while there was no official representation this time we would welcome participation from all stakeholders at any future discussions.

Please speak to your local political representatives to ask for information on data centres so it can form part of the written guidance on applications. Also connect with local campaign groups. Thanks to all present who contributed to the discussion and also to Loganlea Miners Social Club for hosting.

Earlier this year, we were delighted to fund a number of bat boxes for Central Scotland Wildlife Group through our Eco Fund.

Yesterday, we joined CSWG's volunteers to head out and survey the
boxes around Linlithgow Loch. Some CSWG volunteers hold a bat licence, which allows them to legally survey bat roosting boxes. This helps us keep an eye on how they’re being used.

There weren’t any bats making use of the boxes just yet - but we did
find some other residents! One box had been used by nesting wasps’, while another had been used by a blue tit.

It’s great to see the boxes already providing valuable habitats for
wildlife, and hopefully soon some bats will move in too!
