Another small batch of photographs from this year’s Walking of the Marches in Stirling.

From the blue bonnets of the Birlawmen to the colourful procession through the city, the event was a wonderful celebration of tradition, community, and Scotland’s living heritage.

Clan Hunter was proud to be part of the day and to stand alongside the many people and organisations who continue to support and preserve these historic customs.

A few more moments from this year’s Walking of the Marches in Stirling, where communities, organisations, and traditions from across Scotland came together to celebrate the city’s historic boundaries and heritage.

It was a pleasure for Clan Hunter to take part alongside so many others helping to keep Scotland’s traditions and civic ceremonies alive for future generations.

Included in these photographs are our Clan Chief, Madam Pauline Hunter of Hunterston, Graham Wright, Macer Venatorus, together with chiefs, representatives, and friends from across Scotland’s clan and heritage community.

The Walking of the Marches is one of Stirling’s oldest traditions, dating back to a time before maps, when the town’s boundaries had to be physically checked to prevent encroachment.

Unlike many places in Scotland that “Ride the Marches,” Stirling has always walked them. Today, the tradition lives on through the Birlawmen, led by the Captain of the Birlawmen, who symbolically inspect and mark the boundaries in the traditional way of turning turfs. Wearing their distinctive blue bonnets and carrying picks and shovels, the Birlawmen then lead a colourful community procession through the city, celebrating Stirling’s heritage and history.

Our Clan Chief, Madam Pauline Hunter of Hunterston, along with Graham Wright, our Macer Venatorus, and chiefs and representatives from several other clans, took part in this year’s celebrations alongside the many organisations and communities working to keep Scotland’s traditions alive.

The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs was proud to take part in the Edinburgh Tartan Parade, with Madam Pauline Hunter representing Clan Hunter alongside chiefs, clans, societies, and heritage organisations from across Scotland and beyond.

The parade was a wonderful celebration of Scotland’s living traditions, bringing tartan, music, history, and community spirit to the streets of Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh Tartan Parade was also a wonderful opportunity to meet and reconnect with so many familiar faces from across Scotland’s cultural and heritage community.

Among them were Louise Marshall - Scotland’s National Piper, Anna White, founder of ScotlandShop, and of course the much-loved mascot Tam, who proved just as popular as ever throughout the day.

Events like this bring together an incredible mix of people, organisations, traditions, and personalities, all united by a shared passion for Scotland’s culture and heritage. It was fantastic to see such a positive atmosphere across Edinburgh from start to finish.

It was a pleasure to meet with our friends from the Society of William Wallace during the Edinburgh Tartan Parade today, including David, the Society’s Convenor, as clans, societies, and heritage organisations came together in celebration of Scotland’s culture and history.

Clan Hunter has enjoyed a close working relationship with the Society of WIlliam Wallace for a number of years, following the Clan’s offer to help safely house and preserve the remains of the historic Wallace Oak at Hunterston.

Partnerships like these are an important reminder that Scotland’s heritage is best preserved through cooperation, shared stewardship, and a common commitment to protecting the stories, artefacts, and traditions that connect us to the past.

It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces gathered together in Edinburgh in such a positive spirit throughout the day.

Today, members of Clan Hunter proudly took part in the Edinburgh Tartan Parade, with the Chief of Clan Hunter leading our presence through the streets of Scotland’s capital alongside clans, pipe bands, societies, and supporters of Scottish heritage from around the world.

The parade was a powerful celebration of Scotland’s culture, identity, and traditions, and it was an honour to see the Hunter tartan worn and the Clan flag carried with pride through Edinburgh among so many historic names and organisations.

Events like this are a reminder that clan culture is not just about history. It is a living tradition, strengthened by the people who continue to represent it today, both at home and across the global Scottish community.

A sincere thank you to everyone who marched, supported, and helped make the day such a success.

No matter where Hunters gather, the spirit of the Clan continues to stand proud.
