Woking & District Men's Shed

Woking & District Men's Shed W&DMS aims to create a community of mainly older men who support each other and the wider community. What is a Men's Shed?

They're community spaces for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, they’re fun. Woking & District Men’s Shed is a place for members of the Woking and surrounding communities to come to pursue practical interests and hobbies like woodwor

king and learn new skills in the company of like-minded people. Members decide when they come and what they do and enjoy learning from each other. Our purpose is to encourage social connections and friendships building, networking, banter, lots of laughter and plenty of tea and coffee. The Woking & District Men’s Shed is well equipped with woodworking and other hand tools for members to use on both community projects and their own projects. Our Shed will is an open and friendly place for people who want more social connection, who may be living alone and at the same time learn and share skills, trades and interests informally. The wreath stands and platforms had pride of place at Sunday's Memorial Day service at Brookwood American Military Cemetery & Memorial. Representatives from the Shed, and their wives were in attendance, and it was an honour to have been able to contribute to such a moving event.

Following a request from Brookwood American Military Cemetery & Memorial we have just completed a set of wreath stands and platforms in time for the Memorial Day on Sunday 24th May.
It was great to meet Rich and David from the American Battle Monuments Commission when they visited the Shed today to collect the stands.

... and then we had to wait a couple of weeks until there was enough wind to check that it worked 😃😃😃

Several members of the Shed had another "bus pass" day out this weekend, and went to visit the Astolat Model Railway Club Spring Open Day at Dapdune Wharf in Guildford, where one of our shedders is also a member.
The complexity of the layouts was extemely impressive, and the members of the club were eager to explain some of the finer details which had gone into their construction.
We then rounded off the day with a very convivial pub lunch before heading for home. Some things just have to be done. 🥪🍺

Residents at Anchor - West Hall take responsibility for tending some of the raised beds in the grounds of the care home. We have recently completed some signs for these beds so that everyone can see which of the lodges has been looking after each bed.
We're looking forward to seeing the results of their labours.

We were fortunate to have a visit this week from a local chiroprator who, with the assitance of some "willing" volunteers, led a session on maintaining balance, stability and strength.
Many thanks to Jeremy from West Chiropractic for a very entertaining and informative presentation.

The weather was perfect this morning for the latest batch of creations to be handed over to our friends at Quest RDA Group. A variety of signs, some imitation bushes and a mock stone bridge were loaded up into a horsebox to be transported to the stables.
We look forward to seeing these in use in the very near future.

The latest batch of nesting boxes was handed over to the Surrey Dormouse Group today.
These will shortly be sited at a number of locations across the county to help preserve this endangered species.
Well done to all of our members who have been involved in the production of these boxes.
