Meet Brian 👏

Brian loves volunteering because it gives him the opportunity to give back to society and support his local community. Over the past 6.5 years, he has made a valuable contribution through his Office Support role, always willing to help both colleagues and visitors.

Brian enjoys meeting people, offering assistance wherever needed, and sharing his knowledge with others. He has also played an important role in welcoming and training new Administration Support volunteers, helping them develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed in their roles.

We are incredibly grateful for Brian's dedication, commitment, and support to the support he has provided over the last 6.5 years. His positive attitude, willingness to help others, and ongoing contribution to our team have made a real difference. We truly appreciate everything Brian has done and continues to do, and we thank him for the time, care, and experience he brings to the volunteer service.

Meet Ryan 👋

Ryan is one of our fantastic volunteers who is currently completing the Care Certificate Programme at the Trust.

"Hi, my name is Ryan. In July 2025, I started my volunteering journey at Sandwell Hospital. I have recently started the Care Certificate training programme, which is helping me gain confidence, new skills, and valuable experience in a hospital environment.

I have a mild learning disability, but I don't let it stop me from achieving my goals and taking on new challenges.

Volunteering is for everyone. It has given me purpose, helped me grow in confidence, and provided a positive focus. I'm proud of how far I've come and am excited to see what the future holds." 😊

Ryan's story is a wonderful reminder that volunteering can open doors, build confidence, and create opportunities for personal growth. We're proud to have him as part of our volunteer team. 💛💙

National Volunteers’ Week 2026 - Sandwell Health Campus 🎉💙

It was wonderful to see friendships old and new being celebrated, with volunteers coming together to share stories, make memories, and enjoy the afternoon.

A special thank you was given by Jamie Emery Associate Director of Patient Experience, Madi Palmar Director of Finance, Sue Edwards Bereavement Lead Nurse who shared their appreciation for the dedication, kindness, and commitment our volunteers bring to the Trust. Reb Ebenezer on behalf of the chaplaincy department came and shared a thank you and prayer for all our volunteers.

Thank you to every volunteer for everything you do this week is all about celebrating you!

We kicked off National Volunteers’ Week 2026 with a celebration at our Sandwell Health Campus yesterday afternoon. There was plenty of fun, laughter and games, and it’s fair to say that a few people became rather competitive along the way! 😂

Thank you to all our incredible volunteers for the time, dedication, and support they provide throughout the year.

Connections Gatherings – May 2026 ✨

What an amazing gathering we had this month! We were delighted to welcome Sue Edwards, Bereavement Lead Nurse, who attended the meeting to help raise awareness of our new Compassionate Care Volunteering role. Thank you, Sue, for sharing such valuable insight in the importance of this new role.

A huge congratulations also goes to Jatinder Ghatora, our Volunteer of the Month for May 👏
Jatinder consistently goes above and beyond to support others, including his younger peers, and never fails to bring a smile to people’s faces. Your kindness, dedication, and positive attitude truly make a difference — well done, Jatinder!

Liza Gill Volunteer service manager had the chance to speak to students at South & City College Birmingham's Handsworth Campus today about volunteering.

Talking about how volunteering can promote personal development, confidence building, employability, and potential career development with students from various backgrounds was inspiring.

Hearing the various viewpoints and goals that students bring to the table is one of the most beneficial aspects of these kinds of events. They also emphasise the ways in which volunteering can build communities, provide opportunities, and develop transferable skills that go well beyond the workplace.

We appreciate the friendly greeting and active participation from the South & City College personnel and students over the entire session.

Seeing the next generation look for ways to have a positive influence is always inspiring.

Yesterday, Volunteers Service Manager Liza Gill had the opportunity to speak with students at South & City College Birmingham Bordesley Green Campus about the value and impact of volunteering.

Liza commented,'It was encouraging to see so many students interested in how volunteering can support future careers, wellbeing, and community involvement.'

Sessions like this are a reminder that investing in young people and creating opportunities for development can have a long-term impact far beyond the classroom.

Thank you to South & City College Birmingham for the opportunity.

Today the volunteer service attended the Careers Fair at the Learning Works Centre at our Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, engaging with individuals interested in volunteering opportunities within the NHS.

Events like this are always valuable because they create direct conversations around development, confidence building, employability, and community impact. Volunteering can often be the first step towards gaining experience, developing transferable skills, and exploring future career pathways within healthcare and beyond.

It has been encouraging to speak with people from different backgrounds who are interested in making a positive contribution while also investing in their own personal and professional growth.

A great opportunity to showcase the important role volunteers continue to play across our healthcare services.
