WGC Rotary Club

WGC Rotary Club WGC Rotary Club founded in 1926. Aim: helping others and having fun. Varied meetings make Rotary accessible to a wider group of working people.

For details of breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings see the club website: www.welwyngcrotary.org.uk Come and find out if it is for you! We invite you to join the Lunch Bunch, Breakfast Branch or Sporting Satellite Group of the club. We are attracting a new and dynamic group of people with an interest in community projects and charitable fund-raising to get together and further their mutual intere

sts while making new friends and developing creative, organizational and leadership skills. It enables them to make their efforts more effective by tapping into the extensive Rotary expertise and network of contacts. Rotary isn’t what it used to be! Over recent years it has been re-inventing itself as a forward-thinking and broad-ranging service organization with over 1.4 million members worldwide in over 200 countries. It has been campaigning to eradicate polio for over 30 years and, along with the World Health Organisation and the Gates Foundation, is nearing the end of the task. It is a major funder of ShelterBox, (whose founder is a member of Helston Rotary Club) which provides rapid emergency accommodation after natural disasters and conflict situations. All members are entitled to go to meetings of any Rotary club in the world, an excellent way to make new contacts and “get under the skin” of an area you are visiting. At a local level, the club campaigns, raises funds for local charities and provides additional civic amenities, such as benches in the garden by the Millennium Arch and a disabled-adapted rowing boat at Stanborough Lakes. The club has a long and proud history. It was founded in February 1926, less than 5 years after the first residents moved into the new town, and several of the leaders of the Garden City Company, such as Sir Frederic Osborn and Charles Purdom, were founder members of the Club. With the pressure on time for most people these days, breakfast clubs have become popular, not just in Rotary. We are aware that there is no other breakfast Rotary club in this area at present, so we are rectifying that by holding two breakfast meetings a month. They will be at Moreno's cafe in WGC town centre from 8.30 to 9.30am on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays each month. Members who join the Breakfast Branch will be full members of the Club and will be welcomed at lunchtime meetings and particularly at the evening meetings with partners on the last Tuesday of each month. To attend a breakfast, lunch or sporting satellite meeting to find out if it is for you or to get more details, contact the club Secretary at [email protected]
